Rollie had done his part of the deal. He'd held his 'lessons' with Vorenus and Pullo. Whether or not they had actually taken was another story entirely. Either way, Isabel figured she'd learn which was which sometime in the next few hours.

At the knock on the door, Isabel crossed to it at once, smoothing the sides of the dress she'd been requested to wear. Opening the door, she found herself unable to stop from smiling when she saw how rigid Lucius was standing. "Hello," she greeted.

Vorenus' answer was more exhalation than spoken word, a good portion of his chest deflating as he returned her greeting.

He recovered himself quickly however, and extended his hand to her. Within it was a single white flower.

The flower was lovely, though there was something almost comical in seeing it clasped so tightly in Vorenus' strong hand. Expression softening, Isabel accepted it, her fingers brushing against the broad side of his thumb as she did so. "It's really beautiful. Thank you," she said, and moved to find a vase. Remembering the first time she'd met him and how horrified he'd been that she invited him home so she could fix his wound, Isabel paused for a moment. "You can come in, please."

Vorenus blinked. They were to leave now and go to the clearing. That was the procedure as he and Pullo had outlined it, long into the evening before.

The first thing you need to know is that a woman makes her own decisions.

"Ah," he said, blinking again. Then, "Thank you." Stepping over the threshold, Vorenus remained quiet, awaiting her next move as he might have awaited orders.
