Tonight we booted out 11 years of particularly repulsive conservative government, with a hefty majority to Labor. Let's hope this ushers in a more humane era for us, and (soon) for our oppressed cousins in the US.

It's Thanksgiving isn't it? Well, thanks!

Well done! It went even better than I hoped. I bet the celebrations went on for while.

Hopefully, NZ won't boot out our 10-plus years of excellent Labour government next.

That's wonderful news. And I hope it does bode well for a change in thinking and voting over here, too.

Congratulations!

From what I read during the last week, it sounded like Rudd's election was a pretty sure thing, but I don't think anything is that certain in politics. And great news that you have a Labor federal government.

It will be interesting to see what happens next, since Rudd has views on the environment and the war in Iraq that are so opposed to those of Bush.

Too bad about his views on gay marriage, though.

We have nothing but Labor governments. All the State governments are Labor too.

Too bad about his views on gay marriage, though.

It's possible that situation will change as we move away from the Howard era. Rudd did appear on the TV show "Rove" last week and agree to answer Rove's standard question "Who would you turn gay for?" He canvassed Dame Edna (only she'd said publicly that he looks like a dentist) and another fictional character, before finally saying there was no-one for him but his wife. As a politician a week out from an election you couldn't expect any more than that, but simply entering into the spirit of the thing showed that he's not personally homophobic.
