For weeks and weeks now, my family tells me that I gnash my teeth in my sleep like some hungry monster. I'm not even aware of it. Sometimes it's so loud my sister hears it while she's showering for school! Typed 'teeth-grinding' into Wiki and was shown Bruxism. Scared me. I like my teeth and would like to keep them.... I'll have to go to a dentist ( Read more... )

"Anti teeth-grinding sleepwear" - actually, I think there is something! O.O Seriously, I saw this ad just recently for some sort of headband that gives you a small electrical pulse when it senses too much muscle tension in your jaw! Can you believe that - it zaps you when you bruxe!! Crazy.
I apparently have this problem too, although I don't gnash so much as simply clench. My dentist said it's doing bad things to my teeth and gums. :( And it's a big part of my TMJ so I'm going through physical therapy to try to fix it up. Such a small thing, yet so much pain and trouble!
I don't have a mouthguard, my impression is that it doesn't stop you biting/clenching so much as it protects your teeth if you do. And since I do, I really should pull the one I bought out of the box and protect my teeth someday.
Where did you see the predisposing factors? I'm just curious to see if I have any.
I hope it's not bothering you, good luck if you start working on it!

Hey, thanks for the links! As if I haven't read enough about it, lol. I just started PT and had a second session today to try to release the trigger points in my neck and jaw. So I couldn't really say whether it's helped yet, but I'm hoping. I'm one of those with the earache - so annoying! Thanks again!

I BRUXE!

Wear a nightguard. You do get used to it before too long, and it does help! ;)

The way I see it, drooling is the product of a medical problem, while grinding *is* a medical problem -- so grinding is worse!

Isa used to grind her teeth when she was young. Maybe you'll grow out of it? haha. Hers wasn't so bad, but her yaya, who used to sleep in the room with us, would grind her teeth too, and it was loud! Has the problem only started recently? Maybe you should fix your sleeping habits, hehe. :)
