Letting someone in (for de_facto_omega)

Lucien had been nervous since the moment he woke up, probably even before then - his sleep was restless and disturbed. Multiple times over the course of the day he'd thought about canceling. It was a bad idea. It wasn't good for his health, for his friendship, for his family. It wasn't good for Ashley either, he would be splitting everything he ( Read more... )

Three days had passed. Three days when Ashley's mind had been nowhere near his job, three nights when sleeping had proven to be a real test. Where did anxiety came from, he had wondered at first. But it wasn't a tough question.

Not knowing, that was it. After all, what was Lucien so nervous about? Ash had noticed it during their last conversation, and there was something to it unlike anything they had gone through together before. Lucien seemed almost scared, scared of what was to come, rather than the nerve wracking heart-to-heart they had shared.

And Ashley, in all honesty, had no idea what Lucien could be so afraid of showing him. It terrified him, not knowing.

Finding himself at Lucien's door, Ash was almost relieved. As he knocked on the door, he wondered who'd be waiting at the other side. Lucien by himself? Lucien and... His fiance maybe? It had been Ash's best guess.

He needed to get this over and done with.

"Lucien?"

Every light was on in the cottage. From the outside it probably looked like there was a party underway inside, but Lucien had wanted to make it look as friendly and unforeboding as possible. It had been easier when the farm animals had been there for it to look cute, even in the middle of the night, but that was a different time now, a time before he and Ashley had started talking again.

It was fairly clean still, a little dust, a little smell of scent marking, but nothing over powering. The light spilled through the doorway and cast a glow to Ashley's face as Lucien opened the door.

"Hey. Come in." He stepped back, pausing to let the other man in. He felt like he was vibrating with anticipation. The wolf knew it was coming out and it was much more keen than Lucien was. "I'll take your coat."

It was the tension that came whenever your partner informed you that 'you needed to have a talk', Ashley thought. Civil words, slipping out of his coat in a twist and handing it over to a Lucien that was already taking it before Ash could take his arms completely out of the sleeve. They were both having an anxious, unspoken conversation.

Without an invitation, Ash was already crossing the small living room. The place was looking a little different than the last time he'd visited. Better looked after, perhaps? And yet, it was not as inviting. The smell was not as strong as the last time, all these lights gave out a cozy sensation to it. And yet, without the fire and a fur blanket, without the promise of an embrace and much needed reconnecting, Ashley was fearful of the place. Like walking straight into the lion's den....

Taking a seat, he stared up at Lucien, expectant.

No fiances hiding behind the courtains.

Could you tell me what am I doing here?

"Could I ask for a cup of tea?"

As Ashley made himself at home, Lucien stood in the doorway with bated breath. He was a moment away from steepling his fingers, he was so anxious, waiting for whatever cue he was going to give him to get on with why he called him there.

At that request though, Lucien let out a nervous laugh. "Of course! I was just boiling the kettle." For the last half hour.

As soon as he was out the doorway, he dragged in a shaky breath. Minutes later, he was back with a mug of tea for Ashley. Handing it over, Lucien sat down next to him.
