Second day of "summer school" for my boys. Each had the task of working 15 minutes with the vocabulary software.

Result: They both worked concentrated for 30 minutes, without complaining, without asking once how much time had passed - they were quite surprised how long they had spent "learning".

Wow. Go you, cruel taskmaster mother. :-)

They may not thank you for it now, while they're being confronted with half an hour's "work" during their holiday, but I'm sure they will in later years when they discover how they've reaped the benefits.

I really, really hope so.

The plan for tomorrow is to start earlier - the Punk has arranged for a holiday job to earn a bit of money and will go back to kitchen duty at that catering service at 9 am tomorrow. We have discussed it and agreed to get up at 7:30 together, have breakfast with the Husband and do the French at 8:15.

Let's see what he will say to this plan tomorrow morning ...

(The greatest benefit from that plan is that it forces me to get up early as well. I might actually get some housework done before it once again gets too hot to bother.)

Awww, thanks, that gives me hope.

My long-term aim is for them to get so used to doing it that they will keep it up during the school year and never get as behind again.
