about the welcome center ;;

This is an ongoing plan, but the New Feather Integration Center (brought up ICly here) is still in the process of being set up ICly, and there will likely be more posts about it forthcoming. (Also referenced here and here). And now here, as well. Martel has taken the initiative for it, so characters can look to her if they wish to assist.

Building H is is the new location for the center to help integrate New Feathers. The building has been empty for a while and older characters would recall it as being the previous location of the Jasmine Dragon Tea shop.

The general purpose of the Welcome Center is so that characters will have a place to direct "New Feathers" to after they arrive to ease them into Luceti, rather than the current system which can sometimes end up in "Welcome to Luceti, you're stuck here, have a nice day" if that. The hope is that, ICly, more characters will become aware of the existence of the center and use that as a better means to communicating, not only to new feathers, but for "older" feathers to have a way of remaining in touch with the ever evolving changes that come with living in Luceti.

Even now the population doesn't seem up to date on all of the events and an understanding of the updated situation, so there is the hope that this will encourage more of them to ease into doing that (along with hopefully soon to come assumed town meetings and the like, but that's another matter entirely). Hopefully the characters involved with helping would have kept up to date with the various posts made to lucetilocked, as that contains extra knowledge on the situation. Additionally, other things that aren't common knowledge can be discussed there, such as electricity in the tunnels and other things that wouldn't be told over the journals.

The building itself will likely involve a rotating shift of volunteers (but it would be good if a solid core group were more established) to take care of the facility during the new feather cycle and keeping it tidy afterwards. Volunteers are also encouraged to learn more about the situation if they aren't completely up to date. They are also encouraged to give tours if requested; Luceti isn't very large, but it's free CR really, to show someone around for a bit, right? I'm pretty sure a lot of this will end up assumed anyway; new feathers adjust at their own pace after all.

The thought is that it would be a more comfortable setting to read the guide (which is due for a revision), or have parts summarized them by a volunteer if they can't read themselves (as not everyone is literate or has a proper understanding just by looking at a wall of text alone); and give them an opportunity to rest off that "oh god my back hurts" feeling most new feathers get anyway while thinking of questions. Hopefully with a few healer-types as volunteers, that can be helped as well.

Roughly, this is what will likely be set up inside the building:

- Several large maps, but the prominent one of the village itself. (Jenny's idea)
- Several beds, set off into rooms, until they find a place to stay
- A list of the available rooms/houses (Estelle's idea; basically just think of the housing post, minus all the names. Hopefully volunteers will be around to keep it updated.)
- There is a kitchen, so they can make their own food, or someone might be around to serve them probably depending on the time of day, and how/where they arrive.

And anything else that will come up later during other discussions.

I think that's all for now, but I hope that this idea will help us ease new characters into the game in the future, as well as give something for others to do. The idea that once it's established enough, basically anyone who greets a new feather would have the idea to bring them to this place at some point instead of giving them the old 'oh you're new, see ya later' deal. Unless it's not in their nature, of course.
