Gonna leave this here as an anon in the hope it might help some players:

Since there always seems to be a mix up in LJRP about Constructive Criticism (commonly known as a Critique) and actual Criticism, here's a handy little guide from a book known as "Writing Alone, Writing Together; A Guide for Writers and Writing Groups by Judy Reeves"

The Difference between Critique and Criticism

Criticism finds fault
Critique looks at structure

Criticism looks for what's lacking
Critique finds what's working

Criticism condemns what it doesn't understand
Critique asks for clarification

Criticism is spoken with a cruel wit and sarcastic tongue
Critique's voice is kind, honest, and objective

Criticism is negative
Critique is positive (even about what isn't working)

Criticism is vague and general
Critique is concrete and specific

Criticism has no sense of humor
Critique insists on laughter, too

Criticism looks for flaws in the writer as well as the writing
Critique addresses only what is on the page (or in this case, the post ( ... )

I basically had a major panic attack when I came back to the game and saw that, oh crap, Activity Check was slated to end that day. This is the sort of thing that happens in larger games - mod notices and the like just get swallowed up in the sheer quantity of action.

It got me to thinking - there's a (MUCH) smaller game I'm in that has this particular line in their Character Approved copypasta along with 'add these communities, process the add/remove list, etc":

-Track the !activity check tag in the OOC community!

If there was a way to implement something like that for new applicants so that they remember it, and never miss AC... well, that would certainly be a step forward, I'd find. It's a simple step that a lot of people (myself included) should make into a habit when getting into a game, and it would also help with promptness on the ACs.

It's possible I missed something, but what's the status on those mission things we were going to be introduced to? It's been a while now, and should be be expecting the info on them in the next week or more like the next month? we got told it would be after this last event, after all I'm not trying to accuse you guys or anything, just curious because I was looking forward to their implementation.

Now that I've watched Avatar, I can appreciate how truly glorious your Toph is. I adore stalking her posts--especially the manliness lessons--and hope she stays here for a long, long time. ♥

For all that I've seen of your Tony Stark, he seems spot on. Can't wait to see more.

I AM NOT SURE IF THIS COUNTS AS CRIT OR NOT, but I have been stalking the female!Ed entry since it went up because I'm really intrigued by that AU version, and I pimped it out to another friend of mine who also really enjoys that particular version of Ed. JUST THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW. o_o

SURE IT COUNTS

Thank you, though! I've been wondering how I've done with her, so I'm glad to hear that she's at least interesting to read.

So yeah, I've started stalking Asch ever since his relationship with Stella came up on my radar (SOB), and damn do you do a good job. To be honest, Asch isn't a character I had a lot of sympathy for despite his horrible situation (though the anime alleviated that somewhat), but you do a really good job of making me feel for him. That poor, poor kid.

So so, Shikster!

I like how Shuri is pretty much everywhere and how you've managed to develop him from an asshole to a slightly more caring asshole! Though I'm somewhat disappointed you haven't followed canon and made him gay for Teito like everyone else is!!

Aaaaas for Shizzy, I haven't seen him around as much, but I think you've got a good handle on his voice! Also Shizderella was the best thing so.

I am so, so pleased that you followed in with my suggestion and went for Harth. Really, despite how slow I've been in collaborating headcanon, know that I am super excited to have gotten a proper castmate for her; going into apping Melaka I was not expecting that at all, and I can only say that my hope is for them to have more distinct conversations and impact on each other as time goes on ( ... )

D'aw... Thanks Zero, this means a lot.

And... yeah, I've noticed that myself. There's a lot I have planned for the both of them, but they often get put on the backburner for whenever something comes up with Shizuo or Shuri. This weekend I've got an Al post ready to go and one for Jubes after apps are done.

I would say that with things as they are, Jacob gets out even less than they do. I'm going to give myself until December to see if I can balance everyone and revive some less than alive muses. But I can say with relative certainty that Al's not going anywhere.

Hey, dude. So, I think I critted you on this sometime in the past (it may have been the LJ-wide HMD? I can't recall) but the fact of the matter is I'm still seeing some of the same issues I pointed out before.

Your characters are all beautifully IC, I've nothing but praise in that regard, but sometimes it reads like you aren't paying much attention to what the other person is typing. Like, your characters neglect to notice things they should be noticing. Sometimes the smaller details are the most important, and it can be really awkward threading with someone who isn't paying attention to the cues from the narrative.

And to clarify: I don't mean "She looks like she has something on her mind" so much as I mean "She's holding a bunch of bananas over her head", since I know that first example can be a little more subjective based on the character.

I know it's easy to just gloss over the tl;dr stuff and hit reply, but make sure you aren't missing the important things!

I can think of a few reasons I probably do this. Not good reasons, since it comes down to my own forgetfulness or hastiness. Beyond the fact I tend to blow through a bunch of tags quickly, one thing I end up doing when my character receives a bunch of information at once is focusing on what is most meaningful to them, generally the spoken dialog. Otherwise I'll accidentally prompt simultaneous conversations (where two conversations are happening on different paragraphs) and that's a pet peeve of mine. So I'll say, "Okay well Sokka will say something about those bananas after asking about the weather" and then I forget the bananas were ever there, because I don't reread previous tags unless it's a heavily backdated thread. (And thus I spend twenty tags walking next door before realizing the characters were going somewhere ( ... )

So yeah, like I said to Bayley above, I just finished watching Avatar this summer, and now I'm in awe of your Sokka. Every reply of yours, I hear his voice in my head, which is not something that often happens with me. It's epic. ♥

Normally, this is where I'd say our characters needed to interact more so I can take advantage of your amazingness, but, um, this would totally end in disaster. So I will stalk Sokka and Fenimore's threads even more and leave it at that. XD;;
