Far be it from Goku to turn down an invitation to go get some grub. And even though he had already tried his luck at the pond inside of the village, surely there were more fish in the big lake, right? It was like Van said - bigger water, bigger fish. Goku saw no reason to not believe him.

Needless to say, he was already there when Van arrived, twirling his Nyoi-boi around with a bored look on his face. When he saw the older man coming over, he burst into a grin. "Hey! Are we gonna try an' use string to catch fish? Or we gonna spear 'em somehow?"

Van spotted the young boy twirling a staff and smiled. He must be the one he spoke with through the journal.

"I'm afraid, I wasn't able to find any string." They may be able to take the threads from their clothing but Van was still a bit hesitant to destroy his only pair of pants; that would have to wait until they're absolutely desperate.

He looked over at the staff and made a thoughtful sound. "Hm. If we found a sharp rock, we may be able to attach it to your staff." He grinned. "We'd be able to spear them then."

Kicking the dirt with his boots a bit, Goku didn't seemed fazed by the news of no string. The more he thought about it, the more he decided he'd be pretty bored after a while, sitting around with some stupid makeshift fishing pole. Even if he had company, it'd get brutal waiting around like that. His poor stomach! And what would they use for lure, anyway?

The rock idea caught his attention, surely. Immediately, he started looking around the ground for anything that looked remotely like an arrowhead, but found nothing. He frowned. "Maybe we'll find something closer to the lake. Maybe the fish'll be too ginormous to move and we can just go in an' grab 'em!"

Van chuckled. "If the fish are that large, we'd be in luck." He took a moment to glance around the ground for a rock or a vine (preferably both), before looking back at Goku. "We'll head toward toward the lake and see if we can find anything along the way." They may be able to fortunate enough to find fruit along the way, which would save them a great deal of trouble.

He started walking into the forest, glancing over his shoulder to make sure the boy followed. Pushing aside the occasional tree branch, he found himself wishing for his sword again. It would certainly make things much easier if whatever brought him here had chosen to let him remain armed.

"The lake shouldn't be too far."
