DRAFT LOG #2: The Battle Game!

Summary: It's an underground mine! And the Malnosso want you to kill and capture all the bad guys! Oh, but don't let the rocks fall on you. That could hurt.
Rating: B for BLOOD. Seriously. People are going to die.

[Given the known abilities of Shifters, Pao-lin's more than a little freaked out when the orb of electricity she'd been using to light her way through the tunnels suddenly fizzles out with no warning. She tries to will it back into being, to no avail. She hears the commotion of a skirmish somewhere in the distance, but with the tunnel echoes she's having a hard time pinpointing where exactly it's coming from. After a few moments of consideration at a fork in the path, Pao-lin goes down one of them, hoping to escape said skirmish entirely.

Except of course she completely misjudged and is now heading straight for Saten's position. She'll figure out her mistake soon enough to double back, but Saten might notice her anyway.]

[ Notice? Saten owns this darkness. The approach of only a single figure doesn't get an aggressive reaction. Possibly a stray from the group, though this one is coming from the opposite direction the rest of them did. For a few seconds she leaves it alone, finishing up what she'd been doing before investigating.

There's no sound of footsteps and barely any signs of movement. She's a good ten feet from Pao-lin when she recognizes her, and suddenly the darkness might not be quite so all-consuming. ]

Are you enjoying yourself?

[ If Pao-lin were to try again, she'll probably find that her electricity works now. ]

[Her nerves jangled, Pao-lin immediately snaps to a fighting stance upon hearing someone, one hand outstretched and wreathed in lightning. The fierceness in her expression gives way to open-mouthed surprise once she realizes 1) that her powers work again and 2) who the person is standing before her.]

Miss Saten...?

[ Well, they work again for what it's worth. The shadows are still much deeper than they should be, encroaching on the light far closer than one would normally expect shadows to do. The entire area behind Saten remains pitch black despite Pao-lin's electricity. ]

It's not quite as amusing as a mission. But it'll do.

[ She gives a grin as she glances to what she's holding in her hand, then casually drops it to the ground. It's an entire wing--large, the size of one of the Third Party soldiers'--and the blood on the end is still fresh. ]

[Pao-lin can't help it -- she claps a hand to her mouth and steps back when she sees the severed wing. Soon enough, though, she forces herself into some semblance of composure, dropping her hand and inhaling deeply through her nose. It's not the most gruesome thing she's seen in her life, but it's still plenty uncomfortable.]

I guess you've got things under control, then. [This is probably true in more ways than one.]

More than under control. [ And if Pao-lin is paying attention, she might notice the darkness behind Saten give a little flicker as it creeps outwards at the edges. ]

And how are you enjoying this?

[She...is enjoying things, actually. For a severely qualified definition of the word. She likes being able to put her combat skills to real use, but the surrounding circumstances are...less than savory. But she's not going to admit that to Saten.]

I'd rather be back in Luceti, but better me out here than someone who can't fight. [She peers at the darkness behind Saten.] Why's it so dark over there? Did one of the lights go out?

It's how I fight. You have your little light tricks. [ She nods towards the electricity. ] I have mine.

[lightningcute]

So you control shadows, then? I know someone who can do something like that. [It doesn't feel quite so creepy with him, though...even if it still still creepy with him when one thought about things too hard.]

Do you? Who's that?

[ This is the most innocent of curiosities really ]

Um...his name's Shikamaru. He's one of the strategists on this draft. He can control his own shadow to do things, like attacking people or paralyzing them if his shadow overlaps with theirs. I was working with him to find ways of using my lightning to extend his shadow so he could get better range.

[ The name has been filed away and she will be talking to him at first chance she gets. :3 ]

Interesting. Though it's not quite the same as what I do. Needing a light source sounds terribly inconvenient, anyway.

[She gives a shrug and glances into the distance.]

I haven't been down this way before...do you know where this path leads to? I'm trying to get back to the processing area.

I doubt it's this way. That was the direction they were coming from.

If you want to check anyway, I won't stop you. But you'll want to watch your step.

[Mrr. Pao-Lin's pretty tough, but she's going to pass on the scenic route in these tunnels if she can.]

I see. I guess I'll just go back the way I came, then, and check the other path. Maybe I'll see you later. [She kinda hopes she doesn't, though. And this next part is weird to say to someone like Saten, but...] Take care, okay?

Yes. Maybe we'll run into each other again.

[ Saten isn't one to waste words of welfare that she doesn't believe, so Pao-lin won't be getting the same encouragement.

But if there's no further conversation, she'll be heading back into the darkness once more. ]
