DRAFT LOG #2: The Battle Game!

Where: The Mining Facility
Summary: It's an underground mine! And the Malnosso want you to kill and capture all the bad guys! Oh, but don't let the rocks fall on you. That could hurt.
Rating: B for BLOOD. Seriously. People are going to die.

[o hai thar Kain, you look like you need your ass saved by this girl. Again. But this time she'll actually be more successful in her Heroing, dropping in from above with a sharp yell and an even sharper THWACK to the head of the Third Party soldier that Kain's currently trading blows with, delivered courtesy of her dragon-themed Hero staff.

As the soldier reels, Pao-lin swivels around and nails him in the back with the other end of her staff, punctuating the strike with a bright burst of lightning that leaves the soldier a twitching, paralyzed heap on the ground. She reaches into a pocket for her scanner to tag him, then gives a lopsided smile to Kain.]

Are you all right?

[Kain gasps in surprise as someone else joins the fight. He's even more startled to see that it's Pao-lin... and maybe also relieved, though he won't admit that too readily. For now, he takes the pause in the action to glance around, always on the alert for the next incoming threats.]

[He glances back at her again and nods in response. Instead of writing anything out, in here he's relying on the flashcards since they're quicker. He pulls out the stack, sorting to one where he's written an explanation.]

I hate fighting in tunnels.

[Pao-lin frowns upon seeing the flashcards. She's already had a taste of what it was going to be like going into action with someone who couldn't speak, but that was back in the Battle Dome, where you were guaranteed not to die. There's no such guarantee here.]

This is my first time doing it, but I don't like it either. [She glances at the staff in her hand.] The narrow tunnels make it hard to use my staff.

[Kain sighs and nods in sympathy to that. At least he's not the only one who's having trouble. He just wishes it weren't so, but he belongs in the sky, in open spaces. These caves are no good place for a dragoon. Some first-time draft this would be...]

Are you all right?

[Pao-lin nods.]

These Third Party soldiers aren't as tough as I'd thought they'd be. [But they're still a handful to deal with.] I'm glad we don't have to kill them, though. [But she's come pretty close a number of times.]

[Kain nods slowly. He's still mostly killing them, himself, but... that's what he's used to. He doesn't have much ability to hold back when it comes to the Third Party.]

Don't underestimate them.

I know. [No need to tell her twice; she learned her lesson fairly quickly in the first few skirmishes she had. The lack of skill in some of the grunt soldiers just made them that much harder to predict sometimes.

She glances around.] Where do you think we should go from here? [There's at least two paths nearby and a third one farther in the distance.]

[Kain eyes the area and considers it. After a moment, he points off to the distant path. He was heading in that direction before anyway.]

[Pao-lin nods.]

Let's go, then. Maybe we'll find a more open area soon.

[Kain nods in return, and starts off. He really hopes that they get somewhere more open. He's sure to keep his spear ready as he moves along...]
