Jilly wasn't a nervous person, particularly about appearances. Clothes were, more often than not, either comfort or costume, and she was happy with either. But even for Halloween extravagance or the occasional gallery showing, she had never really worn anything so elegant as the dress that Liz Swann had talked her into. Used to jeans or dresses with much less substance to them, she was still learning how to manage the full skirts, holding them up with one hand so she wouldn't trip as she made her way into the recreation center

His eyes dart to the side at mention of his uniform. He's certainly proud of the full-dress, but the thought of his other one pains him. It won't be long, he knows too well, before he has to actually patch it to keep too much wear from showing. Still, he won't allow such thoughts now.

"You're too kind, Miss Jilly."

"I think that's supposed to be my line," she said with a laugh.

"Though, with how everything looks, we could spend the whole night finding things to compliment in here. I can't believe what you and Archie did to this place!"

"I can claim very little of the work. The efforts were done by Mister Kennedy, Miss Swann, and Miss Buffy. It's beautiful." A touch of home. Though far more lavish than anything his home had ever seen. Archie, though... On land, they were from two very different worlds.

He smiled and nodded toward the rather large fir with its trimmings. "I'm still rather... lost... about the tree, but it does make a handsome picture."

She followed his gaze, shaking her head. "I can't picture a Christmas without one. Even if I didn't have one in my apartment, they go up all over the city during the holidays, back home." Her smile widened slightly, a mischievous glint alighting in her eyes. "Though how it was fair to leave the two girls who can't reach above the mid-point to decorate, I'm not sure I'm clear on."

"It was your addition, therefore it was yours to decorate." The jest was taken as it ought to be, and he was even chuckling faintly as he spoke. "I see you managed it somehow, at least."

"We have our ways." Most of them involving foot stools.

Jilly might find herself pulled out to dance by her "brother" later in the night, after supper. "Come along, I taught you this one. Help me teach everyone."

"Can I be the example of what not to do?" she asked, but she came along without even a hint of hesitation. And, for all her self-depricating, she's light on her feet. She fumbled here and there, having to quickly glance at the other dancers to remind herself of what came next, but she laughed her way through her mistakes, just happy to be dancing...however unfamiliar the moves were.

At the end, he honored her and immediately swept her aside to the supper table for a break, kissing her affectionately on the hair. "You look glorious. Who found the gown?"

She hugged him quickly as they reached the table, still slightly giddy from the music. "Elizabeth. She was wonderful...especially with so little time. I didn't even think about dresses until Buffy brought hers home."
