Mac-trap! (okay, last edit, I swear ;;) pugilistinpink November 19 2011, 00:50:07 UTC
A quiet, peaceful morning.

Mac’s worn shoes sank into mounds of soft snow, the air seared his throat and his lungs, misting silver as he breathed out. He had started jogging at a light, easy pace, as always, and once his body quit whining and accepted the fact that he wasn't going to curl in bed and throw on a blanket anytime soon, he had felt a sort of weightlessness and tireless determination take hold of him. He pretended he was trying to keep up with Doc's cycling - and gazing forward, he drove himself onwards, harder and faster, lactic acid burning in his muscles...

And then, all at once, his focused trance shattered.

"Whoa, shii- -!!"

The world flipped upside-down in a sickening blur of colour and he was suddenly lifted high off the ground, suspended from a tree branch by a length of rope around his foot. His heart hammered dizzyingly hard in his chest.

Well, crap.

His body swayed gently from side to side, accompanied by the creeeeeeaking of… something. Either the rope or the branch, he figured - and he sure hoped to God ( ... )

He sniffed stuffily. "Giles kind a' said a while back that he had somethin' goin' on, an' then I was talkin' t'Buffy 'cause she's plannin' something too, so... iunno what's goin' on. I said t'her that maybe she an' Giles should talk about it an' all." Drawing his stiffened hands from his pockets, he flexed his fingers and then balled them up together, blowing on them.

"Bugger. Giles?"

Giles, of course, would be invited to Seven. Jack would just...have to sit far, far away from him. Or something.

"What the devil's wrong with your nose, lad? You ill?"

"Naw, 'ts jus' a lil' cold out here. M'leakin' like a faucet." He wrinkled his nose. "An' yeah, Giles. ...What's the prob'm?" Despite his choice of words, his tone wasn't confrontational.

"No problem, only he's a prat and now it looks as though we're going to have to eat turkey together."

There were, Jack considered, worse things under heaven and earth. Still. Giles.

"How do you know him?"

"A prat?" Mac echoed, gathering it was something insulting from the context. His eyebrows lowered in disapproval. "What's it matter how I know 'im? We talked, that's all."

A shrug. "He's just not my most favorite of individuals, is all, which is why I'm not keen on spending the holiday with him.

Suppose I should be going, now."

Despite his calmer delivery this time around, there was still an undeniable defensive edge to his voice; he couldn't easily imagine Giles having done something to Jack to rub him the wrong way. "Think y'should."

He glanced aside afterwards, as if feeling guilty for his blunt response.

"...It's jus' one day, anyway."

"So come by House Seven, then, for that ONE DAY. The more, the merrier, and the less imperative it is that I involve myself with Giles in any way shape or form."

The pirate turns to set off through the woods. If there is going to be a party, then there needs to be a turkey.

"House Seven..." He mused aloud, his gaze fixed on the pirate's back. "...That's Buffy's place, right?"

"Aye, Buffy an' Jilly's!" Elizabeth Swann had not yet moved into House Seven, and Jack wouldn't even know of her existence in Luceti until Sunday evening. "Make sure to bring pretty gifts for the pretty ladies, son."

Jilly. Hm. Didn't ring a bell.

"Huh? Wait... why?" A dumb question, perhaps - but after several years of spending Thanksgiving with good ol' Doc Louis and not having partaken in any gift-giving traditions for the holiday, he couldn't help but find himself curious and puzzled by the suggestion. The sharing of food and company were gifts in themselves, weren't they? "Y'want me t'bring food or somethin'?"

"Lovely ladies enjoy tokens, particularly if they are hosting a lavish gathering. A flower for each of them. No roses. Savvy?"

Everythin' 'cept savvy "Uh... sure." Mac will just have to defer to Jack's knowledge here; hopefully the type of flowers he brought wouldn't matter, so long as they weren't roses. "...Thanks... I guess?"

"Welcome!" Wow, never has he been thanked before after getting a man caught in a snare. This is definitely a first.

With nothing more to say, Mac left the conversation at that, watching Jack for a while before turning his attention to the snow-blanketed forest floor and considering how he would return to his community building without triggering a second rope trap. Oh, this would be fun - if fun was another way of saying, horribly time-consuming.
