Saleh was just in the middle of a routine patrol of the forest, complete with his staff and his sack full of blankets and other warm clothing to lend to any freezing newcomers. When he unknowingly stepped into one of the snares, the trap was sprung, and his feet were suddenly yanked off the ground. Caught by surprise, he promptly dropped the staff and the bundle he had carried, but his focus was now on the rope binding his feet.

"What in the world...?

"Saleh?!" This---was definitely not a turkey. Jack strode through the underbrush, whacking it out of the way with his sword, until he was positioned just by those dropped belongings.

"Bugger, mate! You're all tied up!"

Hearing his name, Saleh glanced over at the pirate, glaring. The timing of his arrival was too impeccable to be a coincidence.

"Jack...what is the meaning of this?"

Was this the pirate's new way of "marauding?"

"Meaning...meaning.......Are you trying to draw meaning from it, lad? Oooor might it just be one of those odd random happenstances what really means nothing at all?"

Yes, he was going to be difficult about this.

"Jack..."

He was not in the mood for difficulty.

"What I mean is, why are you springing traps out here? Is this another method of robbing people?"

"Hmmm? Robbing....robbing people?! ME?"

It wasn't, but now Jack is going to seriously consider it. THANK YOU, SALEH!

"No, mate--that trap were set for a turkey. A large, plump, meat-covered turkey for the Thanksgivingday Feast! And now you've spoiled it."

Saleh would hate himself for it later. But for now, his face softened at the explanation.

"I see...then I'm sorry. Could you please release me from this trap?"

At least he asked nicely.

"Of course I shall! We're mates, aren't we?" First things first, though. Jack gestures toward the bag on the ground. "Just let me.......what's in the bag, eh?"

"They're just...blankets for the new arrivals."

Was Jack planning to steal them? Well, no matter. It would be easy enough to obtain more from the Welcome Center or from the shops. Saleh had anticipated having to do so from time to time anyway.

No, not steal---he IS going to rifle through the bag anyway, and be all disappointed when it is only blankets.

"Bah. Why do you never carry anything interesting, sage? Hang on---I'll get you down."

Very carefully he will loosen the rope from around a nearby tree and lower the sage to the ground.

Saleh waited until he was freed from the trap and stood up before answering.

"Thank you. You know very well by now that I only carry necessities."

One man's trash is another man's treasure? Well, treasure is pretty much Saleh's trash.

"'S not going to stop me from rifling your things, now is it?" Jack will try to brush the other man off at the shoulders. "You're none the worse for wear, eh? You know anything about hunting for turkeys, lad?"

I'm afraid not, Jack. In my world, hunting is best suited for archers.

"Bugger. I'm trying to catch one, you see. I need to---"

He broke off. At that moment, there was a scuffling in the underbrush. Something was approaching...
