Cargo ship, both days. General stuff. (read: admiral stuff) abidinglaw August 25 2011, 16:40:03 UTC
[In the hours leading up to the first conflict Norrington spends a lot of time on the bridge of the cargo ship, receiving intel and acting on it, giving people stern looks and strong words. When not on the bridge he will be found on deck, looking out onto the water and checking the shape of the ship for himself. Come battle-time he will spend significantly less time on the deck. He aims to arrange the two offensive ships as a shield, containing the fighting at a distance from the cargo ship to the greatest extent possible. Much of his concentration mid-battle will be spent in the attempt to achieve this. By night he will spend a small amount of time in his quarters, but not much. He will not trusts lulls. The quiet is a more of a cause for suspicion than the clamor of battle had been.]

The sun was setting. Buffy drummed her fingers against the edge of the cargo ship's rail. This had not been what she had expected. Nope. Not at all. She longed for the wooden charms of the Joanna Joyce; at least with that boat she knew that its construction had been filled with dedication. What was this ship, though? What was it to her? Little more than what an airplane would be. Or a car.

She knew where Norrington's quarters were and she waited just beyond them. Waiting to catch sight of the Admiral and bend his ear on an organizational matter that didn't mean much but she meant to run it directly through James -- avoid going through his 'first mate', Jack. God but it must be eating at the pirate, Buffy thought. She thought this because she knew it would eat at her had she been in his boots.

"...James," she began when she spotted him.

"Yes. Buffy."

The sky and the sea may have been quiet, but Norrington was not inert. He had tried to rest, but he found himself agitated. If something else were to happen that demanded his attention he would not wish for the legs carrying it to him to delay his knowing about it. He was agitated, too. This constant state of alertness was taking its toll.

"...Did you realize that we can't even get close enough to get a good look at what we're carrying? It could be anything."

She twisted away from the rail, now. Settling her elbows on it. Staring at the Admiral. His very first draft and he was practically the head cheese. Impressive. She was keen to see how he handled himself.

[Nami's a navigator by trade and is here purely in that role for the first days, though she's not sure exactly how much she's going to need to do with droids behind the wheel, as it were. Nevertheless, she'll report to the captain and go through the charts available on ship.

Navigation at home is one thing - she's used to free rein when it comes to making judgment calls on how to sail and where and what-- but Nami's canny enough to know it's not going to work like that everywhere and she's never had robots on board either. (No, Franky doesn't count.) So in this, she'll be taking the Captain's lead, and may end up also filling in for other roles on the ship. She knows quite a few of them.

The few times she takes a break, she'll go straight to a place to sleep and nap for a few hours. Her colour is a little high and her voice a little hoarse, but her wits are sharp nonetheless.]

[Early on the first day, before the battle begins, Norrington encounters Nami on a tour of the deck. Luceti has not yet rid him of the reflexive uncertainty associated with entrusting the operation of his ship to a woman. He stops for a moment to watch her, and when a crew member approaches him with an update on the position of Ship A- which he can see clearly from where he stands - he dismisses them quickly and returns his eyes to the girl again.]

[It's more than a little awkward for all of them. Nami is a pirate and equates what she's heard of Norrington to the marines. In any other situation she'd probably try sassing him to hell and back, but given they're all forced to be here and they could be attacked at any moment?

When he glances back to her, she gives him a salute... which is extremely casual and delivered with a faint grin. Okay, so there's a little sass. She'll still do what she's told.]

Admiral Norrington, right?

abidinglaw August 25 2011, 17:52:41 UTC
Correct.

[He can only assume that the hat gave it away. As for her salute -- he'll let it slide. At least she's pretending to try.]

And you are?

[Nill mainly stays out of the way when combat starts up. She knows she isn't made to fight, and that she'd probably only hinder the efforts. Though if someone looks like they need it, she could probably roll over some cannonballs if the situation was dire enough.]

[But mainly, she's sticking to the galley and little hidey-holes. Find her shaking in a corner? Or just come for the pie and some moe morale boosting.]

[During one of Seto's little breaks from fighting, he goes down below to check on everyone and he happens to come across a girl shaking in a corner. Poor thing, she must be really scared. So Seto kneels down next to her]

Hey....are you okay?

[Nill has wedged herself pretty good underneath one of the counters, and has her hands over her head. The noise, the sounds of fighting, knowing that she was in the middle of the ocean without anyone to protect her... all of it is scary.]

[Despite being scared though, she notices that someone (one of the fighters, maybe...) is talking to her. Nill takes her hands off of her head, blushing, and nods. She wanted to help, but so far all she's been doing is hiding. It's a little embarrassing.]

[How long has this poor girl been hiding under the counter? She must be really terrified of this...it's completely understandable why she would be though, especially as a non combatant.

But he doesn't like to see her scared like this so he reaches out and wraps his arms around her in a comforting way. Of course he's holding on relatively loosely so if she wants to pull away, all she has to do is give him a small push, he won't mind. He's just hoping this will help]

First Day / Second Day - Cargo Ship flicker_flash August 25 2011, 17:30:09 UTC
[For those that know Katie, she'll be acting a little strangely. Small and lost-looking and...actually staying put when she's told to stay with the non-combatants, though she'll sneak a peek at the upper decks that first night just to look out at the ocean. (Or the dark void, given it's nighttime, but hey.) If she knows you well, you're bound to get some really strange looks from her, too.

On the second day, early in the morning, she feels the prickle of the air as it closes in around her and realises she's been through this before. And the first thread of memory that ghosts back to her is of a skeleton and a whale and too much colour, and panic hits before she's even fully aware of what's going on. It's like someone has flipped a switch; she jerks upright and starts running before her vision starts doubling, sprinting full pelt for the rail. They're on a battlefield. She can't afford the outcome of this ( ... )

HURTLING INTO THE WATER DAY TWO BEFORE THE HIJACKING WHICH HAPPENS LATER ON lists_to_port August 25 2011, 17:46:54 UTC
[There is no time to cry out her name. There is no time to do anything except secure a line firmly around his waist and dive directly after her.

Welcome home to insanity, Captain Jack Sparrow.]

[Katie wears bright red as a matter of course, which helps to find her in the water, sinking and hunched in on herself with hands knotted firmly in her hair. That isn't the problem, of course.

Jack hits the water at the same point she loses control, and there's a flare of heat that pulses out through the water. It's power, raw glamour bathing everything around it, and dragging anyone unlucky enough to be caught into Katie's vision of the world.

We certainly hope there are no nightmares of giant sea monsters that you might have, Captain Sparrow.]

[Jack is swimming toward her as fast as he possibly can, homing in on that bright red spot. It is a relatively easy task in the clear water, though the line begins to dig uncomfortably at his waist. Beckett's Mum wants to tug him on.

Lungs bursting, Jack finally catches hold of the girl's arm. But then he startles; is that something large and black swimming past? From the corner of his eye it looked like......

He kicks for the surface as hard as he can, still clutching the girl he has come to know as Silvertoes Kate. Must get away.]

[Feel free to find Jack Sparrow somewhere on board the Cargo Ship, which he has not-affectionately christened the HMS Beckett's Mum.

1) Bump into him running an errand for Norrykins.

2) Are you curious about that cargo? So is Jack. Let's lurk near the hold together and get beat up by droids.

3) You are a non-combatant about to be killed by a Third Party Fighter! Jack saves you! Then he ROBS you!

4) You are Leonard McCoy. You hit Jack for stealing your Thin Mints. Jack gives you a Jar of Dirt.

5) You are Raine Sage. Jack gets his compass back.

6) You are Buffy Summers. You probably slap him for something. Then you kiss him.

7) YOU ARE SOMEONE NEW AND SHINY. SURPRISING THINGS HAPPEN WHICH I CANNOT PREDICT!

Buffy took a long drink from a canteen of lukewarm (but clean) water. And then she tucked that canteen away under a backpack that the Slayer stored underneath the cot in her tiny square of a room that passed as 'quarters'. Upon arrival, she had been quick to find the pirate and make him aware of the fact that whatever his initial quarters were, they were to be abandoned. Hers were now his. Slayer's privileges, after all. He had been the one to coin the phrase.

"You're not happy," she told the man as she started on her best impression of a sailor and tied a bandanna up around her hair. It was more fashion than function, really. But it held the hair back from her eyes.

"School guidance counselor for a few months, remember? I can tell when someone's unhappy."

One final knot secured Jack's bandanna. He kept his seat on the edge of their bed as he reached for the shirt that was balled up on the floor; so unlike his usual neatness.

"Unhappy? Nah, love. Just...adapting."

"...But in the wrong direction?"

She reached out for his shirt -- tugged it firmly from his hands -- and thudded the wrinkles out against one of her knees. Like beating a rug. Then she gathered the fabric up in her fists and pushed the head-hole of the shirt over his pirate-y mane.

"The voters were out of their heads. You should've had a ship. Horatio and Norrington haven't even been drafted before." Sure, she had cast her support for these other two captains but only as the second and third choices to a man who'd been on nearly as many of these follies as she had been.
