Ship B, both days mirrorbirth August 25 2011, 17:59:46 UTC
[Asch is most effective as a spellcaster, so any time an enemy or one of their ships gets too close to the battleship, he'll be right by the side of the boat, gripping the rail and shouting off the incantations for Explosion or Thunder Blade, knowing they'll do the most damage to ships like that. Anything that can cause a fire is pretty damned effective in his book. Any Third Party soldiers who get too close for spells (or those he meets on the deck of the battleship he's on) can enjoy his sword, instead.

War, the battlefield. This is where he feels most at home. Now hopefully his body will hold together well enough to survive it.]

Day 2 (You know what, I'll blame it on their names starting with A) fallenambitions August 26 2011, 04:15:05 UTC
[Alexei will give Asch some support while he's casting his spells. Why let the poor guy get interrupted in the middle of a spell, especially when they're on a roll? He'll fire beams of light at any enemies that got too close to Asch with his Radiant Dragon arte, rather similar to Van's Radiant Dragon as a matter of fact as he might notice...]

it gave me a good giggle if that helps any mirrorbirth August 26 2011, 20:21:42 UTC
[Asch does make note of the spell; it's been a long time since he's seen it - years, in fact - but one doesn't forget such power easily. There's no time for comment in the battle itself, but he makes a mental note to ask Alexei once they have some time to spare, whether between battles or when the day is over.

For the moment, he offers Alexei a nod as a way of accepting - and offering some semblance of thanks - between casting his spells. There's a lot to be done.]

[He nods in return, raising his blade to take down a few more enemies and reminding Asch that he can offer his thanks later.

It shouldn't take much longer as it was getting closer to the end of the day and this was probably the enemies' last wave before they returned to...wherever their base of operation was. If only they could send someone back with them...no, that was probably too risky.

To try and stop them from taking down anymore ships, an Elite and few foot soldiers decide to get up close and personal. Foot soldiers were easy enough to take down, but the Elite was smarter than that and uses them as bait so he can get closer, straight for Asch.]

[Hello, Elite. Asch was wondering when a soldier would get too close for Alexei to stop. With a quick twist of his feet, Asch backsteps and releases the half-uttered spell, unsheathing his sword to meet the blade of the oncoming Elite. He pushes back against the Third Party soldier, teeth clenching. They won't be killing him today.]

[...You are very versatile Asch. Alexei is noting how you fight while he's trying to reach him. These foot soldiers were doing everything they can to hold him back, but they were easy enough to knock back with one swing of his sword, unleashing his Ill Wind arte.

The Elite sees Alexei trying to advance while he fights head on with Asch. He'll simply wave a free hand to raise the water and send them down in forms of icicles to stop him. He'll be trying to dodge those now, but at at least his attention is momentarily split.]

[Truth be told, he's better with the sword than with spells; it's just much easier to take out the soldiers from far off, rather than risk fighting them all up close. With the Elite distracted at least in part by Alexei's charge, Asch is able to lunge in, breaching the Elite's defense and slashing at his chest. The Elite just barely manages to block it, earning a nice gash in his leg rather than a lethal blow. Conveniently for him, it leaves Asch's back exposed, as well.]

[Alexei manages to avoid any serious harm from the icicles and taking the opportunity to strike the Elite. Since it refused to let him approach, he'll just have to stick with using range attacks. An attack from beneath was probably something it wasn't expecting as Alexei uses his Grave Worm arte before it had a chance to counter against Asch.]

[Oh, that's bloody useful. Asch lifts a brow at the spell, but wastes no time studying it; with the soldier in the air, he instead makes use of the Third Party's momentary weakness. Leaping after the winged soldier, he slashes through the air, cutting the man clean in half. There's no mercy to be had in this battle, and why deny the opportunity to finish things quickly when you have a skilled partner around to present one for you?

Rising to his feet, he glances over at Alexei. Skilled partner indeed- whoever he is, it's obvious that he's a powerful swordsman.]

[Huh, that went a lot better than expected. Kicking aside some of the remaining icicles, he moves towards Asch and the fallen Elite.]

Impressive work. [...ugh, as much as he would like to study them, it was probably best to remove it along with the other ones that litter the deck.] We should work on removing some of the carcass off this ship now that we have some time.

[Asch glances back at the dead man, eyes narrowing, then nods. He shakes some of the blood off of his sword and sheathes it.] No point in leaving them here. [Let the sharks clean up after them, is his vote. He grabs the collar of the Elite's robe, dragging him towards the edge. It's ugly business, disposing of corpses, but there's nothing pretty about war, anyway.

His new comrade, however... he can't imagine someone inexperienced making that kind of suggestion.]

You're not new to this, to be so calm about it.

[He was disposing some of the foot soldiers before answering.]

I've seen my share of the battlefield back home. Staying calm is second nature when you had an army to lead.

[Asch watches the body disappear under the waves for a moment before looking back over his shoulder.]

A commander? [And then, since he dislikes appearing too nosy-] I used to act as a commander for a division of my world's army.

Oh? [You've got him a little interested] The skills you've demonstrated in battle make sense now. You used to?

I see. [Being dead is the greatest, yea?]

You can still fight though. [...And still rather young.]
