He followed Moses back to the camping area and sat on the ground to catch his breath and let himself dry off. He was quite surprised when Moses suddenly dropped the purple bag into his lap.
"What's this?" Jay eyed the bag suspiciously for a moment. What sort of prank could the bandit have hidden? Only one way to find out.
Keeping a suspicious eye on Moses, Jay carefully pulled the bag open. However, his expression softened considerably when he saw the Oresoren models. He pulled them out and examined them carefully, stroking the surface carefully with his thumbs.
"These are..." Obviously the gift was leaving him speechless.

Tossing the kindling in the fire pit, he grinned as he saw Jay handling the carved wooden figures. "Made 'em a while ago, never got the chance to give 'em to ya," he explained, reaching over to find the flint he'd brought.
A couple of hits and the tinder caught, Moses carefully putting a log on the flames, moving so he doesn't smother them. He let Jay have a moment to take the gesture in as he built the fire, building it up enough to put the iron campfire grill he brought with him. Soon, dinner would be set upon the fire but Moses moved to sit closer to Jay.
"Hope you like 'em. Might be a bit late but happy birthday, Jay."

"I...I don't know what to say..."
Oh, how he hated being frustrated and speechless. However, there was one thing he could say.
"Except...thanks..."

"No problem," he replied, grinning as he sat back to admire the flames. "Only had time to make those three but I could make you a whole army of 'em."
Moses moved to grab a towel, handing one over to Jay so he could dry off properly. He rotated a shoulder, finding that it ached just slightly from pushing himself hard in their race. He'd deal with that later, he supposed.
"So, what're you lookin' to eat for dinner? Can't say I'm good at fishin' but I could give it a try." Fish wasn't exactly his strong point but it was still a decent meal when he could get it. Unlike Jay, his favourite foods tended to be land-based. "Wonder what kinda fish they've got in this place."

"Whatever you have is fine," he responded to the dinner inquiry. His favorite foods may be sea-based, but it wasn't all he would eat.

Going over to the shelter for their food and other supplies, Moses pulled out a couple of pork chops, something he wasn't used to but was willing to try. He started preparing them, yawning lightly and muttering something at Giet who had come up to whine as food was produced.
"Here's hopin' it don't rain like it was yesterday. We'll be dry but I'd kinda like explorin' without gettin' drowned."
With the food prepared, he put the skillet on the grill then sit back against a tree, looking out across the water. He could almost imagine that they were still on the Legacy, even with the wings on his back.
"They really work hard to make ya think you're not gonna get hurt here, huh?" He sighed, frowning as he watched the sunset.

"I wouldn't mind the rain...as long as we stay dry, anyway."
They were already wet enough as it was. Jay pulled out his hair band and started to gather up his hair, but then decided to let it dry a little more before fixing his pigtail again. So he got up and over to the tree, pulling his shirt from it and putting it back on. If it did rain, he wasn't going to let his clothes get wet.
Sure, it was easy enough for Moses to imagine they were still on the Legacy, but for Jay it was totally different. He didn't get out as much as Moses did, so the environment was just too different.
"It's a futile effort, when you think about it. Once people learn about the experiments, there's no reason to think they're not going to get hurt."

"I heard about 'em but I still ain't lookin' at this place like every tree's gonna bite me in the butt." Some of the creatures out there were another story but he still couldn't say he was afraid per se. "Nothin' I was told made me think I was gonna lay down'n die."
On the contrary. He personally thought that the Malnosso would do anything to keep them alive, the drafts aside. Of course, he couldn't really read much of what had been written in the welcoming centre when he was there.
"I'll start worryin' when they start takin' pieces outta me. I ain't all that worried."

"Just be careful, or they just might bite you in the butt one day."
The bandit was really too optimistic for his own good. But it's understandable, given that he was still so new. The Luceti Land experiment was tame compared to most of the experiments he'd seen, and there was no Hunter like the last time. So in truth, Moses hasn't really seen anything yet.
"You still haven't seen a real experiment, have you? It seems they were being merciful with that amusement park. There are worse experiments to speak of, and more to come. And just wait until you suffer from the individual kidnappings."
At least Jay had been lucky in that regard, that he had only been taken once, while others had been taken considerably more often.

Moses was nothing if not stubborn. He didn't think that there needed to be constant panic and worry when it wasn't necessary. Unlike some folks, he didn't live on the edge, letting life take him wherever it felt like going. It was probably a bad way to live but he couldn't help who he was.
He tilted his head at Jay, grinning slightly. "Was kinda nice of 'em to give us that place. Had a lotta fun there." His grin slipped away to a frown. Kidnappings did worry him. Even though he himself had kidnapped Shirley, he wasn't too keen on anyone being kidnapped now. There was no profit in it. "If they're gonna try'n kidnap anyone, they've got another thing comin'."
Sometimes there was such a thing as too much optimism.

Jay hadn't enjoyed it at all. He'd been too busy waiting for the Hunter to show up. These things could never come without a catch, after all.
He scoffed at Moses's arrogance. "A gald for every time I've heard that one. And yet I've never heard of anyone successfully resisting a capture."
Jay began coming his long hair, squeezing the last few drops of water out of it. "You know, that optimism is going to kill you one day."
