... Okay there is a giant black floating mass right behind Robert. He makes a little frightened noise, but beyond that doesn't do more than stare and back away.]
... Er... S-Salutations...?
[He knows they're holograms by now (possibly anyway) but it's still freaky knowing it was floating right there while he was trying to take pictures.
... Somebody want to help do a little ghostbusting? He's a scientist, he's not good at these paranormal things!]

... How exactly do you... teach sciences? Is it not... at least partially incompatible with your school's aims, and your method of teaching them? [This is probably the one thing that has ever managed to annoy Robert about Helios: this illogical insistence on making people "believe", instead of giving them real evidence to base their opinion off of.]

True you might think that. Some people are impartial to sciences and other's to mythologies. I-I guess it could work against me in the long run. But the aim of my school is to teach people that they can live amongst...well us. Magic and such. I'm not saying I force people to believe in the myths told to them. But even the slightest inclination towards that helps. The mythological students help in those regards as well. Sometimes more than I would like. [ Sigh. ]
Unfortunately I can't exactly keep them from learning sciences either. I still run a school and if it doesn't meet requirements well...
[ A pause as he taps his chin. ] It's still a work in progress I think. I've only had the Academy open for three years after all. Perhaps one day I might try to show people outright what it is lurking within the castle's walls with them. But for now it ( ... )

... Science espouses very different kinds of thought than magic, or at least the way you try to teach magic, does. In fact, I would think they are exact opposites. It seems... illogical to teach evidence-based thought and similar processes alongside something like magical thinking...
[He shakes his head.] You have the potential to... to foster critical thinking, and to prove that magic is compatible with the sciences of your world, and yet you do not. It is... a waste.

I'm just a fool to them, trying to breach the gap between both worlds. They'd never support me, or even think of doing so, none in the current Council at least. To be honest if they even saw that I had told the scientific community I'm sure they'd arrest me, wipe their minds, and play as if nothing were wrong.
[ He sighs. A much more apparent tired look on his features now. ] They're much too afraid of what can go wrong, and not nearly willing enough to try to change. So, I do as best as I can by myself.

... The Council? Terra has... Councils. Governmental systems. Is... is that what the Council of your world does as well...?
[... What. Wiping the minds of scientists...? That is legitimately disgusting. So much that Robert's expression turns to something akin to real horror.]
... They would cause brain damage of that degree?!

[ A sigh. ]
They...they are s-somewhat. They're a ruling body of magicians who oversee the magical laws in my world. They try to keep a steady b-balance when it comes to improper magic use. [ It a mixture of fear and pain when Helios says all this. They ostracized him, never helped him when he needed it most, and he frankly doesn't like talking about them all that much. But he has to explain. ]
Just all memories of the contact they would have with me, should it ever happen. Mind wiping isn't something considered often. It's...it's a tricky spell when it comes to legality. But the Magic Council has say above all else.

... And, Robert is starting to be able to pick up Helios' emotions, so that pain and fear is slowly filtering through.] ... Did... did something happen, or...? [Just... going to seek out Helios' hand. And try to at least hold it a moment in a sad little attempt to communicate something.]

Helios blinks almost about to jerk his hand away from Robert. Not out of spite just out of common practice. He steadies himself though allows the other to do as he likes. There's a sad smile on his feature. ] Yes. Something did and I paid the price for it. Rightfully so too. Nobody wants to deal with someone like me, Robert. That's the easy and plain truth.
[ Helios looks around and then back at the scientist. ] But enough about that. I promised to give you a tour! And we haven't even seen half of the library yet.

He feels the way Helios twitches away from his hand, and for a moment he regrets it. Then Helios says what he says, and he doesn't anymore.]
I want to deal with you. I care about you. I cannot see why anybody would not, but... [He threads his fingers in Helios' reassuringly - lovingly, perhaps, though he doesn't say it aloud right now.
The tour can wait. Helios needs to learn he's a person worth being cared about, even if he has failings and annoyances just like Robert is certain he has himself.]

It reminds him that she was one of the only people to care about him and all his faults. Reminds him that all people aren't like the Council and won't cut him off and out of their community simply because of a mistake. He blinks because he just realized he tried to break that embrace. ] Ah. S-Sorry. What am I saying. Of course you care. [ A lot of people cared and he still sometimes found himself wondering why. ] I-I just...
[ A sigh. ] I made mistakes and I paid for them. [ Mistakes that lost people's care in him and left him rather lonely. Sure he had his students and the mythica with him...but they weren't...they weren't magicians; they weren't his kind and it hurts. ]Back home the price paid was having as ( ... )

He figures Helios shouldn't be alone, and if he wants Helios to trust him enough to talk, then he ought to trust Helios in the same way. So, haltingly, he stops and faces his close friend - the friend he thought he'd lost, before - and murmurs quietly.]
I... I have made mistakes too, Helios. And... and I doubt you simply... fled from yours.
... ... I chose to leave everybody and... and everything that had mattered to me rather than... than face what had happened. [Unconsciously, his fingers go to the marks on his wrists. Does Helios remember those scars? Did he even see them enough to know what they meant, to know the shame of his own failure to control himself, of losing himself to something that by rights he should have had the willpower and sense and logic to regulate rather than being consumed by?]... ... W-Worse ( ... )

I never thought I'd meet people who cared about me. Back in my world who would even consider to give me the chance to explain? No one. And yet here it-it's like it doesn't... [ He pauses catching himself as he lets out a shaky sigh. ] It doesn't matter what I did. People still care.
I-I don't...I don't think I deserve it. [ Considering how hard he is on himself he truly believes this. ] But this place is far different than your or my world.
I've made many mistakes in my life Robert. Everybody makes mistakes.

[After a moment of silence at Helios' statement of not deserving being cared for, Robert steps forward and puts his arms around Helios - notably less mechanically than usual. Even in a situation like this, he can still spare just a moment to hold his friend and tell him it's okay.]
... I always have cared about you, Helios... and I a-always will. [For as long as he stays in this place.]

Helios doesn't expect that hug so he stiffens under Robert's embrace. ] Ah... [ It's awkward mainly because before this they haven't spoken in over a month. How could Robert of all people ever care about him? After everything that Helios has done to him? It almost...doesn't make sense to Helios. And yet he can't help let that smile touch his lips.
Forgiving. Helios knew it all too well. It seems they were more alike than he realized. ] Thank you...Robert.

Maybe the hug is a little awkward - but Robert really doesn't care right now. It's Helios - his friend, his beloved probably-best-friend-in-this-place - the first person who called him a friend... There's no way he couldn't be forgiving. Especially not when he's so, well, dependent on this man.]
You are always welcome.
... Please don't ever think you don't deserve it... because you truly do. [Maybe I don't deserve to give it to you...]
