The Magical Boat of Magical Awesome truthget June 19 2011, 16:11:06 UTC
[So after enough demands from a particularly demanding girl (AKA Haruhi) Edward is finally prodded into making good use of his alchemy skills. Several trees are felled from the mountain, converted into lumber, and then, after a great deal of blueprint-consulting and note-taking, as well as a series of complicated transmutations, at last, it's complete!

...To the extent that it'll probably sail without sinking, anyway. Hardly furnished and all. But yes, the beach now has a rather large boat on the edge of the shore, waiting to be used. And Edward is standing nearby, feeling rather accomplished and pondering the need for a dock.

Let us all now enjoy SAILING! Or just admiring the shiny new toy or something, that works too.]

[Wow, that- That's actually impressive. She stands next to him, staring at the water vehicle for sometime before-] Are we going to use it?

[Edward glances over at her, then over to wherever Haruhi is.]

We should probably try it out before we tell people it's been made. I don't know anything about sailing, though.

[She's currently inspecting the exterior some more - knocking on it in a few places. Actually, overhearing them, she turns and-]

Do we even have sails on it? I forgot to bring anything for them.

We could use the towels we have? Though that might not be enough.

I don't know if towels would be the right material, anyway. [How to get around this, though... hmm. He doesn't actually know anything about sails, but they're supposed to be stronger material than just plain fabric, aren't they?]

Well sails are made of cloth, but there is some process to laminate them or something... I don't know the specifics offhand. [She pauses to consider this too. The most logical would be if he could make an engine somehow but that probably is really impossible]

Aren't they made out of canvas? And shouldn't you have thought of this beforehand?

I didn't think she was going to put me to work on our vacation, don't look at me.

[There must be some way around this. But he's pretty sure he's never had to make canvas before, so the composition...]

We could make a quick trip back to the village for material- it's not like it's far away.

[....Hm.

Hm.]

We could, I guess.

It would be a shame not to. [That boat is really kind of cool. And she's never been on a boat.]

[So much for just hanging out at the beach. Oh well, this is kind of like a field trip on a field trip, right? He turns back to the fort in the distance, pointing.] Should we just go now? We can get some rope for the rigging while we're there and be sailing in an hour or two if we get started.

[Which is probably a little optimistic, time-wise, but he's on a high right now and a setback isn't going to drag him down.]

[She considers this. Well... this isn't really what she wanted to think about but at the same time it does make sense to do it. And this is for the Brigade and if they sailed it might be cool too...]

Al could do it. Or we could send Ling... but I guess I'd need to monitor the materials...

Haruhi you can't just delegate people to do things like this is the Brigade. We'll go.

It's your project, so you should take care of it. Besides, Al's here to have fun and Ling would just pass out somewhere and forget.

[Two against one anyway, so he's heading for the teleporter now, pulling out his little notebook and flipping through to start some calculations. Equal mass and all that. Will the shops have enough...?]

[SIGH.

You know what whatever she's going to just fall in pace behind him (again) because he's right, in this situation she doesn't have much to argue with]
