[Though the meals have been prepared, the house cleaned, and the laundry done just as usual, Ayumu has been a little quieter than usual for the last few days. It's likely only noticeable to anyone particularly perceptive, but unfortunately there are a few of those types in the house tonight. Still, she's serving dinner as usual, even if she's careful not to let her sleeves push back far enough to let anyone get a good look at her wrists.

But no matter, it's dinnertime and she has plenty to do to make sure everyone gets fed. Especially certain people with near-bottomless stomachs.]

[Before dinner, Okita decides that checking on Ayumu is a good idea. Even if he was technically supposed to be asleep when the scuffle happened outside, that doesn't mean he was and doesn't mean he isn't concerned.

Poking his head into the kitchen, he spies Ayumu and walks in. While she's working, he leans on his elbows on the counter, staring at the fish in the window. He won't say anything yet and for all appearances, it just looks like he came to see the fish.]

[The fish certainly doesn't seem to notice that he has company, unfortunately- he's never been a very good conversationalist. Ayumu, on the other hand, doesn't bother to look up from her work even as she greets the new arrival.]

I'm afraid dinner isn't ready quite yet, Okita-san.

[He smiles faintly and reaches up, putting a finger against the glass bowl, toward the bottom. Dog darts away at first, then slowly comes back around to investigate.]

Oh, I know. I came to say hello.

[Even though there have been some terrible conversations (all involving Sannan) going on lately, all of the men from House 40 have managed to put aside their awkward long enough to walk over together to the other house for dinner. Ayumu's cooking is a powerful incentive indeed.

After slipping out of his shoes at the entrance, Sannan pokes his head into the kitchen.]

It smells as delicious as always, Ayumu-san. [--as strange as it is to say that again.]

[Powerful enough to somehow make the tension vanish even after they leave for the other house? Tatsunosuke can only hope, although it's probably not a good sign with Toudou bolts for the opposite room the moment they get there. He holds in any commentary, however, in favor of also greeting the person who made this venture mandatory.]

It really does. Is there anything you need help with? [At least it's gotten easier to talk to her, and Yamanami as well. He doesn't even go pale any more.]

[Ayumu glances up when they enter, turning her inquiring look into a faint smile and a nod of thanks.]

I'm glad to hear you think so, Yamanami-san. I only hope that it tastes at least as good as it smells.

[At the question she glances around briefly, but only shakes her head.]

No, but thank you for the offer, Ichimura-san. It should be ready soon, though, so perhaps you could try to herd everyone together?

Ha ha, I don't think we need to worry about that. Anyway, I guess we'll, ah...see if we can find everyone else and let you finish up. [This isn't awkward at all. Sannan ducks back out of the kitchen.]

I guess Toudou-kun's gone off to find Nagakura-kun and Harada-kun, so that just leaves Okita-kun and...Hijikata-kun... [UNSURE UNSURE UNSURE]

[It's weird being in this house.

Sannan's gone off to the kitchen, so Heisuke goes in the opposite direction into the living room, looking for people.]

Yo, Sano! Shinpachi! Where you guys at?

[Sano is found staring hopefully into the kitchen even if he's practically sitting on his hands to stop himself from going in there.

Ayumu's not exactly been subtle about telling him that he's not welcomed in there when she's cooking. Mostly because he usually tries to eat everything before it's done.

Or, at least, get a head start.

It's been too long since anything that's been cooked in their kitchens has smelled quite so good.]

[Aw....damn. Sano's near the kitchen and that's where Sannan is. UH.... well, time to pretend it's normal and peachy and all.

He pads over and stops next to Sano.]

You get in trouble again, big guy?

...what do you mean "again"? I don't get into trouble.

[During dinner time, Sano will be happily enjoying everything and anything that Ayumu has cooked up for them. He's also going to be making sure he eats a lot of it.

Lots and lots of it.

As much as he's allowed.

Until someone stops him. Someone should probably do that some time soon.]

[It's a good thing Ayumu made extra knowing that Sanosuke would be there for dinner. There might not be enough rice in Luceti, however, to supply him when he gets going. So she'll just pause and give him an inquiring look.]

Are you still hungry, Harada-san?

[He stops to give her a sheepish little look.]

Ah...not exactly. Just, y'know. The food's so good... I love your cooking.

Oh, that's very sweet of you to say. It isn't going to vanish, though, and I'm going to be cooking tomorrow as well. Don't give yourself a stomach ache, hmm?

[ Shinpachi is probably helping out in the kitchen, as he's gotten used to. It helps that he was cooking for himself for a long time before the others showed. No Nagakura family recipes this time, though. ]

[As long as he sticks to making food the right way (read: her way) Ayumu certainly doesn't mind the help, especially with the addition of more people for dinner. It's business as usual in the kitchen, except that she's working without tying her sleeves back like she normally would, and thus has to be careful to keep them out of the way. Probably no big deal, though.

Right now she's setting out bowls, frowning slightly as she counts them to be certain she has enough for everyone who'll be there tonight.]

[ Oh, Shinpachi knows better than to go his own way in her kitchen. He likes living and having his eye back, thanks. He is just mixing something that's been assigned to him to mix.

A glance is sent her way. ]

Something wrong, Ayu-nee?

Six... seven... that should be right, shouldn't it?

[She glances back at him, with just a hint of a smile. Oh no, there's nothing wrong. Of course not.]

Though with Harada-san coming, perhaps I should set aside three just for him.
