[ dressed nice and tastefully, the eldest daughter of the next clan is socializing before the meal with a glass of (barely touched) wine in one hand. she looks contented enough -- a mask of domestic bliss. do bother her. please.

if you want prose, prose it up bb! you know i love the prose. action-tagging for the sake of those who might prefer it. ]

"Buffy." Archie speaks from behind her, and if she turns, she'll see him holding up a wad of napkins.

She turned her wide, affectionate smile on the younger brother. "I hope I wasn't too fashionably late. But I see the table's just barely set and -- oh, do you want a hand with that? I can be very handy."

She and Jack had brought along some spirits but otherwise Buffy was the non-food-making type. She wanted to contribute somehow.

"And here I thought I'd have to bribe you somehow." Archie hands her the napkins and offers to take her wine glass to free up her hands. "Thank you for bringing the spirits, by the by."

[While Gem, for all outward appearances, was cool and collected, inside her stomach was doing flip-flops. While she had known most of these people since her youth, she still was the 'new' wife, and realtively unused to being around such a large family such as this.

Wearing a simple dress that showed off her circuitry, and with her hair bound in a loose coil at the nape of her neck, she sat on the couch, observing. It was good that Tron had decided to come, as well. Her brother needed to get out more.]

[New wife or old, Jilly's not making comparisons. At least, not other than the fact that Len was happy. So, smiling brightly, she'll drop down onto the couch near Gem with a pilfered dinner roll in her hands]

I hope you're hungry...Archie went a bit crazy in the kitchen.

I'm excited, actually. [She gave the other woman a soft smile.]

It smells wonderful--I really wish I could actually learn to cook well. I seem to burn everything.

That's me too. I think I'd be alright if I'd ever remember I had something going. But I get started on projects and, next thing you know, voila! Burnt dinner.

Jilly had purposefully set aside her sketchbook for the night. Drawing helped her focus, but too narrowly and tonight she didn't want to miss anything.

Of course, with the night just starting, this left her with fidgety hands. As people began to arrive, greetings being spread all around, Jilly did her part with the hugs and hellos before sneaking quietly into the kitchen to pilfer one of the rolls.

It wouldn't really be ruining her appetite. There was too much waiting to be enjoyed. But someone was always bound to be running late and she wasn't going to spend twenty minutes smelling delicious smells without getting something.

So will mine, probably noprevaricating April 20 2011, 01:10:21 UTC
Archie was in the kitchen when she arrived, filling a pitcher with ice water and looking very concentrated. When she comes in, he doesn't even look up--he knows it's her. "I should have made a fruit salad."

Damn. Caught already. Except, she knew that look. Coming over to join him at the counter, she ducked under his arm to give him a quick hug.

"Don't be ridiculous. You made enough food to feed an army."

He sighed and hugged her back, holding on a little longer than may have been her original intention. "Someone has to take over Mother's position as the matriarch eventually, and since none of the rest of you cook..."

[Jack Horner, dressed up for once, is mostly snacking on anything that's left out, while trying his best to not appear that he doesn't want to be here. After all, he knows that he's pretty much universally reviled by this family for not only his antics, but also his tendency to not deliver his thoughts and actions in prose. Oh well, at least he has alcohol to pass the time with.]

We have wine, whiskey, and cognac. What do you want?

[He's not being rude, he's just not acting excited to see Jack. He's not keen to start an argument when he's trying to make this a nice evening. The temptation always exists, though.]

Whiskey, thanks.

[It's all the same to him. If someone doesn't like him, he'd prefer them not to pretend otherwise.]

[Archie pours him a glass of Scotch and passes it to him with a nod. The nod says, "You are here. I am here. We are men. I will act civilized to you if you do the same."]

[Familyyyyy. Dear god does she love family. To be honest most of the people are older than her, but hey. She can still enjoy this! So she stands around, generally being a wallflower and smiling at the relatives. It warms her heart to have so many people together to just be with each other. Even if she knows her mother probably had to 'persuade' her dad to come. That's just something she won't think about as she happily watched people exchange greetings and smiles.]

[Yes? Maybe? Okay, no. She can't get away with it. Time for Adorable Family Hugs time. Do you like her new sundress? She bought it with her own money at work. In fact-]

Uncle Archie! I have something for you.

Do you! [He'll release her, but keep his hands lightly on her shoulders. He could never really...hug Kirsi. Because she was three inches tall.]
