[Everything is full of scent: the blood pooling around his hooves, the drips of sweat clinging to sheet-white skin, feathers lined with must and dirt. The air itself is stale; full of scent.]

[The Running each have their own smells. Its eyesight is filled with nothing gray blurs, but already he has pinpointed each one as they zig-zag and race between his feet like mice.]

[Mice are vermin. Bugs are vermin. Filth. Disease.]

[Cure it all. Cure all disease. Chase the Running.]

Do it! [It couldn't be any worse than being plucked up into the sky by Aang or Appa, after all.]

[ And while you guys do that, Usopp will take up running interference. He fires what's essentially a large, bird-shaped flame to pass in front of Chopper again. ]

[It probably is about the same as that - forty feet in under a minute. When they'd found a safe spot to land, Brook puts Sokka down and points farther along the walls of the ravine.] If you and Usopp-san will continue to set up your explosives along the walls, I will lead him to them! Just yell if you need me for anything else.

[Sokka stumbles for a few steps as his feet find the ground again. Now that was a rush. Brook, you're way too bony for carrying people.]

I'm on it! [With that, he runs on ahead, fetching a bomb from his bag, noting how much lighter that bag is getting. Uh oh, not good.]

[With that, Brook jumps back down towards the middle of the ravine, making a point to catch the monster's attention as he goes.]

Chopper-san! This way, if- Oh my, I see I don't have to tell you twice! [Hitting the ground and running. Yup, that definitely worked. But he can keep ahead, and luckily Chopper's attention is off the boys as they set up their explosives.]

[ Brook is going to give people heart attacks at this rate. Usopp fires off another one in turn- he's going to have to invest in making some flashier distractions when everyone gets back. For the sheer fact that not every bag is as bottomless as his usually is, he'll shout across the way. ] Oi, Sokka, let me know if you start getting low-

[ Excuse him while he shrieks and runs faster to avoid getting caught up in his own explosions. It helps to pay attention to where you're throwing. Sokka got the gist, right? ]

[So much noise. The pillar of flame shoots across the sky, and the monster jerks away sharply in overpowering, instinctual fear. It buys them six seconds; after that it's hulking forward again, teeth glistening and snarling from deep within its throat.]

[The noise has put a ringing in its ears and its nose flares with the putrid tang of explosives. It cannot let the Running get away - so close -]

[And then another stench, overpowering, that sends a stab of electricity through its spine: Death. Its massive head swings toward Brook.]

BUOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!

[Yeah, yeah. He got it. He also gets that Chopper seems intent on making Brook his target. Which means it's time for another ditraction. Having gained a little distance since Usopp's explosion, he sets another explosive along the cliff face, before running on ahead again. Seconds later, it detonates, creating another nice landslide that Brook should be able to avoid getting caught in, but the timing should be much harder for Chopper to avoid.]

We're almost there!
