Meryl made sure to arrive promptly in the afternoon after a morning of preparation. Packing, leaving food and essentials for Ciel, making sure all her derringers were loaded, getting herself properly dressed and fed: her normal travel habits.

She was almost glad to smell the dry air of the desert again. It was a wonder that she missed it, but the cold weather was rather a turn off. She almost, almost, had a spring in her step as she approached Leto. "Good afternoon!"

Leto actually did have a spring in his step. Or rather, he sprung up onto his feet. I shouldn't have been daydreaming like that. This isn't Arrakis. I can't afford not to be alert here.

"Hello Meryl. It's good to see you." He meant it. He despised pleasantries so if he said, for instance, 'good luck', he genuinely wanted you to succeed.

"Mark and his housemate should be joining us soon..."

Meryl gave him a nod, shifting the pack on her back as she did so. "It's good to see you too. It's a nice day, isn't it? Not too scorching," she mentioned, glancing up at the blue sky with some form of affection.

"Oh? I haven't met either of them, that I know of."

"Mark is a strategist. I had some very entertaining rounds of Pyramid Chess with him. I don't know anything about Norma, but he says she's trustworthy..."

And so they waited a while. Leto sat cross legged content with silence and small talk. There was no sound but the soft sussuration of the wind on the sand.

Then, as if by some unseen signal (perhaps he was looking at the sun?) he decided they'd waited enough. He pulled his journal out of his backpack and scribbled a quick note to the two absentees. "I've told them to contact us when they arrive. Let's go in before the sun moves any farther..." He stood up again. Leto was content to explore by night of course, but Meryl's eyes weren't quite as keen.
