Today's date is September 17th of our Luceti calender. I hope that all of you reading this are familiar with the guide in some form; I am doing my best to keep it as up to date as possible. However, as you may have noticed, there are quite a few pieces of information that seem to be left out of it, or misrepresented entirely. That is because the guide is a public record; the Malnosso know full well what is in it, and there are certain things that they would rather us not be aware of. The guide does its best to fulfill it's purpose of updating you with our basic situation.
The journals themselves are not secure, but this I am using a secure system filtered directly to residents to provide an update of our current situation. Nothing written within this system can be viewed by the Malnosso Organization, but abusing it may raise their attention. It is the reason why we cannot, unfortunately, provide links to old entries, though the previous entries can be shown to others in person. For updates, we can only continue to summarize what we know as the situation progresses.

In this past month alone, we have been subject to a lot of change, even if it may not seem that way to some. We have witnessed true death, participated in battle, and learned more about our situation. Please, take the time to read and ask questions. A Shift is "physical, mathematical, mental or subcultural alteration" from an outside source. There are two types of Shifting -- natural and synthesized (the latter of John's creation). The barrier around us is a product of synthesized Shifting and is supposed to protect us from the natural Shifting going on outside of the barrier.
We have also learned that "a Progressive Shift is a constant change that works as a sort of roundabout way to reach a goal", better described as a passive Shift. This however seems one of many Shift methods that exist.
Shifting is a technique utilized by the Third Party and the Malnosso, the former of the natural variety, and the latter relying on synthesized means. It is one of the main differences that sets us apart from them. It's likely one of the determining factors that results in our placement here.
Shifts and the effects thereof are also thought to be reflected in the experimentation. The Malnosso seem to watch for the results of the village-wide experiments, perhaps studying the effects of the various shifts.
The Malnosso Organization
What do we know about the Malnosso Organization? While they remain out of reach, and in control of us, through the use of their superior technology and abilities, we have learned a few other things about them.
One, is that they, like us, are brought here from many different worlds. What does this mean? It means that they do not control the force that does bring us here. Unfortunately, we cannot yet answer the question to what that force actually is, but it is not something within the Malnosso's control. This also implies that they are not the ones who give us the wings, but perhaps the wings have a form of connection to this world itself. It is a subject that still requires more investigation.
What is within the Malnosso's control seems to be deciding which of us to pull inside of the settlement itself. We've been given a vague explanation of it having to do with a form of strength that we possess, though in what way is also uncertain. Everything that the Malnosso do are very planned, though situations come up that are not in their control. It is these changes that made us aware of them not being infallible... even if opposing them is still out of our league for the moment.
As told to us by ANI, the Malnosso Organization's goals have changed numerous times in the last 200 years. Their current 'public objective' is "to locate a means with which to travel between our worlds." While the Malnosso undoubtedly have ulterior motives, it is with this objective in mind that we have worked with John and Jacob.
Another name that should mentioned is the one of "Tyr", though it should be noted not to use it negatively. The Malnosso were quite furious when they could no longer find him in the village.
According to ANI, "Tyr was regarded as a hero and a born leader, both within the organization and without". It has been implied that he had did many great deeds before his death, and John even spoke of working with him on various plans of the past. Past residents here would recall him as being the former "Weapons Shopkeeper". He was being kept in the village as an attempt to 'preserve what was left'. While we aren't sure as to the reason that led to that state, we have been assured that he, along with the current shopkeepers in similar states, weren't left in that condition due to repeated experiments.
The Organization has been in existence for many centuries; the cycling of groups has also been prominent for a long time. Our current group however spans just over two years.

The next stage is to identify the aforementioned John, Jacob, and ANI, who have been the sources for most of this information.
Jacob is a sympathizer who believed that helping us will help him return to his own world -- another version of Earth that may or may not coincide with other versions of Earth mentioned by other residents. He was the first to contact us, and slowly open our eyes to the larger situation surrounding us. It is because he chose to aid us that we've been able to learn more about this world, even though there is still a long way to go.
It also needs to be stated... that Jacob is no longer with us. He was ritualistically sacrificed at the hands of the Third Party, and from that... there is no return.
John is a scientist whose main interest is conducting research, whether or not it complies with the Malnosso Organization's procedures. He has developed a way to reverse death penalties, though there are certain criteria that have to be met before he can even attempt. He is the creator of the technology that powers the barrier, and has considerable clout amongst the other scientists because of this. John resides in the western underground tunnels and cannot be reached or easily contacted because of the barrier he has erected there.
ANI (Automated Neutral Intelligence) is an artificial lifeform which speaks for it's female creator. While it's creator has recently spoken to us, we scarcely know anything about her, save that she is not affiliated with either the Malnosso or the Third Party, but maintains observations and provides answers if the right questions are asked, though most questions lead to being told that the subject matter is "classified". It is by her existence that we have learned more about the Malnosso Organization, and have gotten hints that there is a lot more to this world than we have access to, on many levels. According to Estelle, we were given permission to refer to ANI's creator as Rem, as she claims to no longer have a name for herself.
John and ANI still speak to us through the journal network. Their entries are coded so that the other Malnosso are locked from them, so it is not often.

It should be made known that the ruins in the desert are now once again off limit to us. A month ago, we were informed of a breach in the barrier, though were not given any more information than that at the time. According to sources the barrier was shifted after the initial breach for prevention measures. We also now have conclusive proof that the ruins were used as a place of sacrifice, though it wasn't until Jacob's sacrifice that we were able to understand the true purpose.
The Third Party. We have heard mention of this name a few times, though we never had any contact with them until recently. We do not know for certain how they came to this world, but it could very well be that they arrived just the same as us, just the same as the Malnosso, save with differences. We know that they are capable of creating natural Shifts, which give them an advantage. We also know that they have wings much larger than ours, which give them a flight advantage. They also have the use of spirit magic, and other abilities.
They oppose the Malnosso, in what has been described as a "clash of ideals". The Malnosso's goals are an attempt to return home, while the Third Party seem to want to break the cycle completely with true death.
We know that in the battle that they were weakened previously through John's efforts before they fought us. In the battle, those who spoke to the General were able to get some idea of what the Third Party's goals were. In the battle within Luceti, there were roughly 300 to fight, and they were all defeated. The General himself was brought down by a woman named Buffy Summers.
We can only surmise that they may revive again outside the barrier, as it seems to be the case, but we do not know what the condition may be, or what they will do next, now that they have witnessed us in action.
The May Incident
This incident happened a few months ago, but it is still something to keep in mind the more we come to understand our situation. Through a barrier "adjustment", a mistake was made, resulting in some form of crack. This allowed for some of the conditions outside of the barrier to seep inside, affecting the residents and Malnosso alike.
The effects were largely that of possession to a certain extent. As it seemed, residents with a form of an elemental affinity found themselves possessed by one of the spirits -- yes, the very spirits the guide speaks of. Wings had grown larger, and had changed in color to reflect the spirit somehow. Blue spectrum for water, and so forth. The spirits often had an affect on the personality of those who were affected, as well.
Most of those unaffected did not seem to have an elemental affinity, but that did not apply to everyone. The Malnosso referred to those affected as "hybrids", and made an ultimatum to the unaffected citizens to kill those who were affected. The citizens refused, and the Malnosso instead were forced to use their own means towards killing the affected. There were ten deaths due to this incident. John was able to come up with a solution to help restore those affected to normal.
What does this mean? It seems to be a resolved incident for the moment, however we have learned that the spirits themselves are not natural to this world, even though they have become a large part of it. It also was a time when the Malnosso were clearly not in control of the situation, and their resulting state of panic.

Recently, as already stated, we have had a battle with the Third Party. While our forces were varied, nonetheless we were able to overpower their forces. However, the only reason we were able to do so was with the help of John and his technology. This is not the first time the Third Party has waged war on Luceti citizens; in all other occasions, it is reported that those who were locked in here were lost.
We have learned that when people die, they are not revived "in the Luceti settlement", but are actually revived outside of the barrier. What it means is that dying here possesses another danger. While the Malnosso do often retrieve or repair the bodies after the fact, it is believed that the Third Party at times may interfere. From that, there is no recovery.
Right now, we are in a waiting period, of recovery and regrouping. We do not know when we will receive any new updates from either John or ANI's creator, and it is more than likely that an experiment period will be upon us. We can only be on our guard until we learn more.
In closing, I also would suggest that we begin to hold town meetings, preferably in the Barracks, when they are not being utilized for other purposes. These meetings would be for a verbal discussion of our current situation and for a chance to bring up questions with one another. Given the size of the building, and our ever-growing population, it would be best to send only one or two people per household.
