Hubert still doesn't know a lot about Ion, and tensions still remain from recalling the time they were a family. Part of it is because the mention of the only uncle he knows of in his actual family drudges up bitter history, but he knows that's not Ion's fault. As far as he's aware, Ion is one of those incredibly kind and generous types to a huge fault, and knowing that makes Hubert want to be more blunt and strict with him, but at the same time, it makes him more awkward around Ion. There's a great deal he knows as a "nephew," not much as an acquaintance. But that familial sentimentality lingers, so he looks out for Ion whenever he sees or hears about him ( ... )

But yes, Ion's is definitely more than a little too "kind to a fault". I'M BEING SLOW FOREVER but he'll definitely talk to tiny-Hubert a little bit aaaand then probably apologize to him when he's all grown-up since obviously little kids don't need to worry about his problems!
...and then he'll tell him he was a really cute kid and smile like this icon right here.

Well. Hubert considers this thing between them awkward, because he knows he's keeping Richard at arm's length and vice versa. Despite months of living together, he hasn't made much of an attempt to get to know Richard beyond what he already does. He can easily get by with saying that Richard is more an acquaintance than a friend, though he would actually like to be friends with the king. But there hasn't been much for him to use to do the bonding with, and Hubert knows how evasive Richard can be just from watching ( ... )
