An Idle Moment [Hotel, Continued]

Jan 26, 2006 08:04

Lulu decided that it would be politic to leave the others discussing their sleeping arrangements, and left quietly. She found the hallway to be empty and idly glanced out one of the frosted windows. The courtyard appeared hazy and indistinct shadows moving across the cobbles. Real shadows not heartless, she confirmed after a breathless moment ( Read more... )

Finally, things were coming into order. Faye and Touma had found their way into a room, Ed and K were resting, Lulu had wandered off and Zack was assuming she could take care of herself...

For a moment, he could just take some time to breathe.

Along with Sephiroth, Zack left their room so as to not disturb Ed and K. With a small sigh that was more relieved than anything, he leaned against the wall and closed his strangely intense eyes. The hardness of the wall felt soothing against his back, which had been knotted up during all of that chaos. It really hadn't been that big of a deal, but trying to take care of five people at once was a bit tiring.

Eventually, one of those eyes opened to catch gazes with his silver-haired friend.

"So, what do you think about that mark he had?" He didn't need to elaborate. Sephiroth would know exactly what he was talking about.

Sephiroth was tempted to follow Zack's example and let out a sigh of some relief. He hadn't had to deal with the sudden influx of people wanting rooms at the inn, of course, but he'd had a trying day of his own...but now that things had quieted down and his irritation with Zack had faded away, things were beginning to look a bit better. Slightly saner at the very least.

In response to Zack's question, however, he had to shake his head grimly. "What else is there to think? I don't like it. Some sadist carved that thing right into his skin..." His own intense eyes slid over to Zack. "My money is on Axel."

But that was as far as he was going to pursue that subject, so he changed topics after a brief pause. "I don't suppose you've seen my coat, Zack? I...forgot it when I left, and when I went back it was gone. I was hoping you'd grabbed it."

Some sadist. He hadn't thought of it that way. So it was the result of another person, not a Heartless? Perhaps he naturally had too much faith in people. Now that Sephiroth had mentioned it, that made a lot more sense. Heartless were too mindless to do something like that.

Axel? No way. He knew that Sephiroth wanted to change the subject, but he shook his head. "That's not his style at all, Seph," he argued. "Axel doesn't work that way." He figured he had enough experience to know.

And, well, about the coat...

"Yeah, about that..." He scratched at some of his spiky hair and let out a sigh. "Axel nabbed it."

Sephiroth, of course, had come to the conclusion that it hadn't been a Heartless almost immediately - if it had been, the creature(s) wouldn't have messed around giving K a stylish wound, they would have taken his heart and been done with it. They didn't bother with much else.

"I wouldn't put anything past Axel," Sephiroth said flatly in response to Zack's defense of him, and that would have ended the discussion of the redhead right there, but...

Oh, Zack had not said that. For a moment Sephiroth's brain refused to believe what his ears had told it.

"Axel took my coat?" Sephiroth was well aware of how incredulous he sounded, an astonishment that was rapidly swinging towards righteous anger, and he didn't give a fuck. That BASTARD had taken his coat? That was his coat! It had - oh, fuck, it had all his munny in it, it had several elixirs, it had ( ... )

Selphie dashed into the hotel, her friends right behind her. She wasn't out of breath, but it was hard for her to speak regardless, mainly due to shock.

As she stood amongst the debris, she was stunned to see that no one was injured. That certainly made her look stupid, bolting in here to see if anyone was hurt.

Still in mild shock from what she had seen, she tried formulating some form of coherent speech. "Well...there was...and then, the roof...and then...um...I thought, maybe...someone was hurt..." she gave up, feeling hopeless, and turned to her friends, crossing her fingers that they would save her and prevent her from making more of a fool of herself.

Rikku caught up to Selphie to see what had happened. Rikku was speechless, something that had never really happened back home but was happening increasingly on this new world.

"Yeah...we wanted...person hurt...I mean make sure...no one was...,"Rikku added to Selphie's fragemented speech. She then took a deep breathe and forced out a complete sentence,"We wanted to make sure no one was hurt...we heard...well..the crash.." Ok that failed.

Well, that had spiraled out of control quickly.

The appearance of the woman Lulu in an outfit even more impractical than the last (and that was saying something) was one more person than the aggravatingly surreal scene really required. That their extremely unexpected crasher - in every sense of the word - immediately took the opportunity to flirt with her went beyond annoying and right into the realm of seriously improper, and Sephiroth had just opened his mouth to upbraid the man when yet ANOTHER girl darted into the hotel. This one, in fact, he recognized - Riku's yellow-clad friend from earlier, who'd distracted the boy while he'd interrogated Naminé. What the hell was she doing here?

The urge to introduce some order into this increasingly confusing situation, by force if necessary, was almost overwhelming. Only years of reminding himself that he was no longer a general, that he no longer had the authority to insist that people shut up, form orderly lines and start making some sense, kept him from attempting to do so ( ... )

Dante was about to make more horribly inappropriate comments to the hot chick in the nightie, it was Dante after all and they really should've expected it even without having had any contact with him before, when the door to the inn burst open. The half-devil's hand reflexively flew to brush the hilt of Rebellion, a dangerous smirk crossing his lips. Maybe Ankle-biter was coming back for Round 2 ( ... )

... Claudia missed a lot.

There were far too many people in this room for her to keep track of. There was that mage who had helped them before, that general, the black haired innkeeper and the thing that presumably crashed through the roof. It looked and acted human, which was enough for Claudia... for now.

She crossed her arms, observing them for a second. That man who crashed through the ceiling was quite vulgar, and the general didn't seem very pleased. Well, they could duel to the death for all she cared.

Claudia knew this might not have been the best time to ask, but she had to know what K's status was. Plus, she wanted to know where Ed went. His contacts had arrived, after all.

She walked quietly towards Zack, tapping him on the shoulder.

"I understand this isn't the best time to ask, but I just want to know where the people I came with are? Ed and K?"

Sephiroth stiffened immediately when the white-haired man slung an arm around them like they were old acquaintances - a liberty that even real longtime friends of his, like Zack, rarely took(but whom he would permit to do so if for some reason they felt the need to). But it wasn't the overexaggerated familiarity of the gesture that had him tensing up - the man's arm was wrapped around, pressing directly against, his tightly-folded and extremely sensitive wing.

The reaction occurred almost before his logical mind had worked out what was going on and how he was responding to it, a half-turn and a shove so violent that, had his hands been fists rather than open and flat against the other man's chest, it would have carried all the force of a direct punch. The instinct drowned out everything else in his mind in a blind rush - nothing was important other than keeping him away from the wing, because the wing was vulnerable ( ... )

Dante realized that he probably should've expected a reaction like that from someone with such an obviously large, "ribbed for her pleasure" stick up his ass. He'd like to think that he didn't stagger so much as he did glide back slickly with his hands raised in the air and an obviously-feigned wounded expression crossing his face ( ... )
