Here kitty kitty... [Hollow Bastion; COMPLETE]

Bakura had been awake for close to ten minutes but his eyes were still shut, giving the appearance of someone fast asleep as could be. One if his hands were bound to the bed by a soft leather cuff, his body still tingling from whatever kind of healing magic they'd used on him. He ached faintly just about everywhere but nothing was torn or broken. ( Read more... )

"Dinah!" Alice whispered harshly, entering the hospital wing.

Dinah had slipped from Alice's arms on the way down and scampered ahead, and now Alice was looking for her.

Oh, she hoped the kitten wasn't causing any mischief! The poor patients wouldn't want a cat chewing on their bandages, she was sure.

Alice peeked around some of the curtains surrounding patients, quietly searching for the little furball. Then she heard faint meowing and the low mumbling of a voice. She followed the sound until she came upon an unfamiliar patient holding onto Dinah with one hand.

"Oh, I'm terribly sorry, sir," Alice said softly, "I didn't mean to let go of her. She's quite the trouble maker, I hope she didn't bother you at all."

She held out her hands patiently, in an attempt to take Dinah back, but she didn't want to pull her out of the patient's hands; it looked like he was holding on to her a little tightly, and she didn't want her kitten to get hurt.

Oh great, it was just some little kid. Just when he thought he'd find something useful wondering around the palace...

He dropped the kitten into the girl's waiting hands, apparently no longer interested in kidnapping for fun and profit. It should be noted that he used enough self-restraint not to throw the kitten at the girl though he found the mental image to be a very amusing one.

"She decided I didn't taste very good." He replied smoothly. His other arm was still strapped to the bed but it would be a simple task to shift it just the right way without having to dislocate anything. He raised up onto his elbows instead, as comfortable as a king in fine silk bedsheets.

"Aren't you both a little young to be wondering around here all alone?" He asked, his voice still a little rough from earlier. "Where are your parents, kid?"

Alice caught Dinah in her hands and cradled her against her chest, petting her head comfortingly.

"Oh, she didn't try to bite you, did she? I really am sorry! I know I should try teaching her manners, but she's absolutely stubborn!"

That's when Alice noticed the strap around the man's arm. She tried to make it look like she didn't notice, however, because she didn't want to startle him in any way. Was this the man Aladdin had warned her about...?

"Oh, um...my parents are back at home, where I come from. And I wander the castle quite frequently. I do know how to take after myself, but thank you for being concerned, sir." She said this as politely as she could, but now knowing that he was bound to the bed for whatever reason, Alice was becoming fairly nervous.

"Sir?" Bakura chuckled, though there was nothing of mirth in the sound. Sir. That was rich. He drew himself up into a sitting position, tugging slightly on the cuff to test its strength. If the girl hadn't noticed it before, she would now.

"I'm just a lowly commoner, princess." He'd said it as a nickname because just like her cat, the kid looked like she'd been properly cared for. His free hand rested on his chest briefly when he spoke now he drew his knees beneath him and used it to help inch the cuff down off his wrist. It was a harder job than he'd expected and Bakura's grin faded a little, his teeth bared.

"That's just unnecessary." He growled, shifting his fingers in a way that looked as painful as it felt. "Is this..." They finally slid free and Bakura massaged his hand absently, eyes sliding away from the cuff and back to the girl. "...standard hospitality? Or is it my birthday today?"
