I think Sam compartmentalized a lot of things from his childhood when he got to Stanford... so he didn't put two & two together when he first saw Neal.

Dear Sam, While I understand your bias, and hero worship (both are well deserved), Neal's awesomeness is at least doubled by his taste in clothes. Dean's leather jacket does a lot, but it does not do as much as that hat. That pretty, pretty hat.

I propose we have a "lean against the car" contest for further evaluation.
