It was unexpected and singularly disturbing. He had found her attractive and witty in ways that he was not. Despite her randomness and her misplaced cheerfulness in what should be gloomy situations, he found her dependable and familiar. She was young, but their ages weren't too far apart. He could wait, he told himself even as their lips touched.
But when he discovered the truth, he was appalled beyond words and so glad they hadn't gone any further.
She was still attractive in both appearance and nature, but he could no longer look at his love for her in the same way.
