One day, Conan disappeared.
Then, Shinichi-niisan started appearing. Ai became distant, and the Detective Boys fell apart.
Ayumi knew that Ai-chan knew something about Conan's whereabouts. Sometimes, she'd see Shinichi-niisan pull Ai-chan aside. They'd talk in hushed voices that somehow always escalated on Shinichi-niisan's part.
Ai-chan never raised her voice. Instead, she hid behind Ayumi or Mitsuhiko, whoever was nearby while Shinichi-niisan showed up, and would stick her tongue out at Shinichi-niisan in defiance. Today, she hid behind Ayumi.
Ayumi spread her arms out.
"Stop bothering Ai-chan!" she exclaimed.
Ayumi knew that Shinichi-niisan wasn't a bad guy, except there was something about him that didn't feel right. He was nearly an adult, but he was still so childish sometimes! He was different from Conan, who was much more mature than his age. She didn't like Shinichi-niisan all that much, and if nothing else, she knew that Ai-chan wasn't ready to talk about whatever that Shinichi guy wanted to discuss.
Ayumi rolled her eyes. Sometimes detectives were just too nosy.
