Sunday, for the first time in my 28 years of living here (well, less a few years for good behaviour) I went to the Chinese New Year parade to see the dragon dance etc.. Aki really liked it, he liked the BBQ duck and wonton soup even better! After lunch we went to Value Village, where we scooped a bunch of Archie comic books (which he seems to like ( Read more... )

I've never been to a Chinese New Year.
We don't have one here which is strange because there are a lot of Vietnamese People in Berlin.

Bad about glasses, but be glad that you still have you're old ones and are not completely without any (like if they where broken or something).

I would guess there are a number of Chinese people in Berlin (and a lot of the Vietnamese people would be ethnically Chinese), but I think there would only be New Year celebrations and a parade if there were a distinct "Chinatown" in the city.

I'm glad they checked about the glasses, because then I would be wandering around trying to see out of my weaker eye with the wrong prescription, not knowing why I had so many headaches. It's worth the wait.

There was a documentary on the telly today about the Chinese New Year and about the Chinese community in Berlin.
It seems to be the biggest in Germany (we also have some Buddhist temples and even a shaolin temple ???), didn't know that.
But I guess you're right, we don't have a "Chinatown" in Berlin, so no place where a parade or other kind of celebrations would make sense.

Yeah, better that they saw the mistake before you got the glasses and payed much money. You would ended up seeing nothing and having headaches and not knowing where they came from (because you think the glasses are ok).

Pretty much the same as the old glasses, just a darker frame.

Heh. Pity you didn't get an opportunity to try them out before they discovered their error. Those coke-bottle bottoms of yours might have concentrated enough light to act like a laser. When I put my last prescription on for a test, I almost twisted myself into a corkscrew trying to get the right lens to work properly. The error came about because a "108" was written so quickly and close together that it looked more like a "68".
