The Sphinx, while not exactly in an ill mood, was not feeling quite happy, either. She had finished with the magazine of crosswords puzzles early in the morning, and, it a fit of irritation for it having been too easy, thrown it in a garbage bin. She had taken a walk after that and had a delicious lunch, though, which had gone a long way in making things tolerable.

Right now the Sphinx was looking for some place to rest a bit after her meal, as well as hopefully engage in something more intelligent than a puzzle made up by some incompetent mortal. Hadn’t she seen a TV around here somewhere? With any luck, there would be some quiz show on. It was always amusing to try to guess how far the contender would get, although none of the shows quite punished failure seriously enough. Still, it was mildly entertaining, and she felt like curling up on a couch, anyway, so, after spending few moments by attempting to recall where the TV might be, she headed towards the sitting room ( ... )

"Ah, hello beautiful," Loki greeted her happily, but without even sitting up. He was still tired after all. "It is good to see you again. I've mostly been practising my shapes as I promised you and scouting the area and our fellow guests."

"The shapes I've tried already are working nicely, but they were all a bit rusty at first, so I'll need to go through my entire repertoire." He paused. "Unless you've already found the place and we can come up with a plan where we can be sure exactly which shapes I'll need?"

“I do know the location”, the Sphinx said, “but only in rather general terms. And, while I have been in the vicinity of the place on some occasions, some changes tend to take place.” She tapped the wooden arm rest of the sofa with her fingers and scowled, considering the options. But she might just as well tell him, she decided, as he would have to find out eventually, anyway, and it wasn’t really a secret, not with the mortals writing things down and giving out all sorts of important information left and right.

“It is, after all, a volcano. An active one. Not much use, mapping it in detail.”

"Hm ... a volcano," Loki mused. "Hot lava and poisonous gases. That will be difficult. I'll definitely need a fast flyer and something that can hold its breath for as long as possible without being too slow on dry ground, something small that can slip through cracks and a variety of others since we don't know exactly what to expect. And they all should be able to deal with heat well, which disqualifies most of my usual repertoire. I'll have to adopt some new shapes for this one."

He started zapping through the channels again. "Time to start watching nature documentaries."

"So what have you been up to lately, if not detail mapping the volcano?"
