Gabriel had just entered the restaurant when he felt the presence of His Second - and a very familiar voice calling his name.
"Oh dear."
Biting his lip to hold his smile back, he turned, walking back out to the lobby where the Warrior stood. "Just when I thought I was going to have a nice peaceful holiday, you drop by to annoy me."
Despite his words, however, he hugged Michael warmly. "What brings you here, Michael?"
"Aw c'mon," said Michael as he reciprocated Gabriel's hug, "I just got here and you've already insulted me." He pouted to the best of his considerable pouting abilities. "I was perfectly nice to you. In fact, I came all the way down here just to see you... well mostly... but anyway, here I am, so very nice and polite, and yet you so cruelly insulted me. I think I might go cry."
"Liar," Michael retorted fondly, "I've been told I'm an excellent pouter. As for the other reason... whoo boy. It's kinda complicated. Long story."
He reached up and wiped an imaginary tear from the corner of his eye. "No, I don't need your charity," he said, trying to make his voice wobbly. "You would probably throw it in the mud and laugh at my sorrow anyway."
The Sphinx was having a breakfast - devouring a nice, juicy steak that was only barely fried on the outside, and deliciously fresh in the inside. Nice and chewy, she thought as she cut another piece. She had had to ask for a sharper knife - human teeth were not ideally suited for such a feast - but other than that, the morning had been quite pleasant. Even the weather was looking up - the day was likely to become warm. All she was lacking now was some amusing company.
Just then, the door swung open. She looked up, an enigmatic smile curling her lips.
The only other person inside was a darkhaired young woman. Gabriel nodded to her, smiling pleasantly. He wondered who she was; there was a strange aura about her, she wasn't entirely human. Another goddess, perhaps; she looked... Greek.
Michael was surprised that Gabriel approached the only other person sitting in the restaurant as opposed to just sitting somewhere, but then again, maybe Gabriel knew this woman.
"Hello, person I have never met before," he said. "That steak looks delicious." Well, a little on the rare side, but still.
”Why, good morning to you, as well”, the Sphix said. She regarded the newcomers, still smiling. They did have the feel of immortals, so, she decided, it would be best to be careful with them.
“And greetings, person who wishes to talk in an unnecessarily lengthy way”, she added. “Doesn’t it just? But, regrettably for you, it is mine. If you want a taste, get your own.”
"Do show some respect." Gabriel didn't know what would happen if Adam got angry with Michael, but he was not too keen on finding out. "Try talking to him first."
"Obviously," Michael scoffed. "This is his home turf; who knows what a fight would do here. And I don't want to find out. He'll see reason, anyway. Whatever. We'll figure it out."
”Indeed”, the Sphinx agreed. ”It is always better to be cautious, especially with entities who have the upper hand. Or”, she added, “might conceivably have it, were circumstances to go their way.” In her experience, that last little detail seemed to slip people’s mind quite often - which was not such a bad thing, either, as long as she was the one who benefited from it.
Michael nodded and gave her an appreciative finger-waggle. "Right, right. Starting a fight now does no one any good and could be fatal and no one wants that."
He gazed at his empty plate and watched it go away as the waiter carried it off. "So, what's there to do around here?" he asked. He might have asked it before, but if he did then he didn't remember the answer.

He pushed Michael's arm lightly. "Do you need a piece of tissue, then?"
