I offer myself to give Ianto some classes, good excuse to use my Chef degree :)
lovely story.

That sounds like an excellent idea!

Ianto's cooking disasters are actually a combination of people - the egg in particular was because of the cook wandering off and forgetting about it (to be fair, she did have a baby1 to look after), and I couldn't resist borrowing that idea that Ianto would try to fill the dead time where something is boiling etc. to do something else.

Oh dear, you made me cry, because I have one of those very recipe sheets at home too (from my Mum, not Lisa :)

:S Sorry for bringing up the feels. I didn't mean to make anyone sad.

Adorable! I love Ianto being baffled by everyone thinking he can cook when he can't even boil an egg safely, lol! Some men (and women too) are just that inept around the kitchen. I can just about get by with the things I need to cook.

It's sweet that he still has Lisa's recipe - maybe he should laminate it to protect it now so that it lasts forever.

I did wonder about lamination, but Ianto said no. He wouldn't explain it, so I'm not sure whether it's something about the feel of the page, or how it smells. He's looking after it carefully.

The three examples I gave are all things I have witnessed, although thankfully I wasn't the culprit for any (I was actually 'Lisa' for the pizza incident). The egg was the result of wandering off and forgetting it was boiling, and it seemed like such a Ianto thing to do - going to do something else to fill the 'dead' time during cooking.

I end up with black fish fingers for the same reason. I can't bear to not be doing SOMETHING! I'm always busy, usually doing several things at once. Right now I'm ripping CDs onto my computer to load on my iPod while answering emails and playing CDs to see if I want to rip them or not. And eating yogurt, lol!

Lovely, poignant with references to Lisa and I could laugh about his attempts to cook. I learned after I got married and first thing I tried was baking yeast breads. First couple of loaves were hard as bricks on the outside and soft inside but you needed a hammer and knife to cut them open. I finally got the hang of it but yeast breads still bring a smile when one goes wrong occasionally.

Oh, I am so rubbish at bread! I'm actually not bad at most other things, but bread is still the one that catches me out every time.

Thankfully, the incidents mentioned, although real, were all other people. My biggest disaster was actually something completely outside my control: the oven broke down just as I put in a massive pie to feed me, my flatmates, and a visiting boyfriend (not mine). *sigh*

Crud, that really sucked! Somehow, though, our son has turned out to be a very good sous chef; fortunately, he takes after his father who is a much better cook than I am and does a lot of Asian-themed cooking. I prefer the baking part and have gotten a little better at it over the years. Keep trying; you can do it and you'll find that the best part is kneading; that let's me take out my frustrations on the dough! :D

That was really lovely. I can cook, but have failed miserably to pass on most of everything but the very basics to my children. And my husband. It seems he forgot how to even boil water the second we married. Can't even follow the directions on a macaroni and cheese box correctly(he's never forgotten the soupy mess he made of that effort 20+ years ago!).

Still, now that I am living in a place where it is the norm to have domestic help a couple of days a week (and yes, I pay my wonderful house-helper well above the going rate for domestic work in Uzbekistan, as well as public holidays, which still throws her for a loop), she does as much of the cooking as I can get away with. I detest it! I hate the kitchen, and spend as little time in there as possible. Besides, there's no way I can compete with this woman, she is a goddess with the food.

Wow, can't say that Uzbekistan is somewhere I've ever been!

I love cooking, and both of my parents have contributed to that. Even my little brother has taught me things! That's not to say that we haven't had our little disasters from time to time (one of which appeared in the story), but it's something we all enjoy. It was a rare occasion that my mother resorted to frozen food (unless it had been home-made in the first place).
