He'd put it off long enough. The longer he waited to go apologize to Jack, the harder it would be, and the less he'd want to go do it. All he could do, really, was bite the bullet, get it over with, and just hope that he hadn't completely bollocksed everything up. He sat for a while, though, in his quarters, his PADD in hand, just staring at the ( Read more... )

Jack was seated at his desk, actually doing paperwork for once when Scotty's message came through to him. He thought about ignoring it, he thought about asking if maybe Scotty was going to come by to punch him again (he really didn't appreciate that, and he was sporting a rather impressive bruise on his jaw where he'd been hit), thought about just telling Scotty that he was busy, but he knew better. He'd just done this whole making up thing with Ianto, and it was his turn to do so with Scotty now. Granted, he had even less of an idea how to make things better with Scotty than he did with Ianto, but that was besides the point.

And so he capped his pen and picked up his phone to text Scotty back.

Yeah, alright. I could spare a few minutes. Come on down.

He didn't waste any time in heading to the transporter room when he got Jack's message in return. If he let himself stop and try to prepare any more for this, he wasn't going to be able to do it at all. Even so, as much as he was trying not to let himself get all worked up and nervous about it, that was easier said than done, and by the time he materialized in the Hub he was fairly certain that no matter what happened it couldn't possibly be any worse than any number of the scenarios he'd imagined. Slowly, he made his way to Jack's office, trying to mentally rehearse what he was going to say, trying to work out how to best to say it...

And then he was there, and there was Jack, and the minute he saw that bruise on Jack's jaw... "I'm sorry," he said, the words tumbling out before he could think about them any more. "I'm sorry. I didn't-- I shouldn't have-- I'm sorry, Jack."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Jack said, holding up a hand as Scotty just sort of spit words at him. He stood up from behind his desk, moving around to sit on the front of it as he spoke. "Hold on a minute, take your time, take a breath. You obviously came down to say something, and you should say it. What're you apologizing for, is it this?" he asked, raising a hand to touch the bruise on his cheek. "I tell you what, you've got one hell of a right hook."

He did just that - took a breath, took a moment to collect himself. Jack wasn't brushing him off, which was as good a start as any, he figured. "I. Yes. That. An' everything else." Another pause, and another breath, and he shifted his weight from foot to foot, before speaking up again. "I really honestly didn't realize that you an' Ianto. I mean. I really didn't know, Jack. An'. I'm sorry for blowin' up at you about it."
