Summary: Some time following the death of the mysterious stranger, Raphael finally goes to look over the items found in the man's pockets. He could use some help, though...

UnTangling the Rope

Raphael raked still shaking fingers through his hair as he made his way to the bar. He could feel the infernal aura in the blade at his back and vaguely wondered if it would do him good to put it away for awhile. That much power couldn't be good for an angel. In any case, he found the items he had found in the man's pockets. After turning them over for hours, trying to make sense of them, he decided to get some hot chocolate.

Nothing changed, though...

The man was dead...

Joe smiled as Raphael entered the bar.

"Same as always?" he asked.

The angel was starting to be something of a regular.

Raphael nodded. "Yes please. If you don't mind?" He looked around curiously. "Do you have any cake, too?" Sugar was needed. He just felt so worn out lately and even simple tasks seemed to spread him thin.

"I fear not," Joe said. "I can call the restaurant and ask if they'd serve over here, though?"

He prepared a cup of hot chocolate and put it on the counter in front of Raphael.

"No no, don't go to the trouble." Raphael gave a tired smile and swallowed some of the hot drink. "You make the best hot chocolate," he said with a grin, a chocolate mustache clear on his face.

"Thank you," Joe said. "Just the thing a bartender wants to hear." He grinned. "So what's up? you look tired."

"I've been trying to make sense of this," Raphael replied. He showed Joe what he had... The passport, the page ripped from a book, the few bills. "He... He came to the manor and said... He said he needed our help but before we could save him he..."

Raphael swallowed some chocolate. It had been the night his Presence was restored but the death of the man still pained him. He licked the whipped cream from his lips and folded his wings against his back. "I still want to help him," he said.

Joe glanced at the things but refrained from closer scrutiny without permission.

"If there's anything I can do to help..." he offered. "I have contacts well-versed in research and finding people."

Raphael moved the items around so that Joe could see them easier. "You... You do? Really?" He smiled a little at that. Maybe they could help the poor man after all.

"Yes," Joe said. "I think I can. Could you get me copies of those? I don't want to take your originals."

He thought for a second.

"A description of the person wouldn't be bad either."

Raphael nodded. That was a good idea. "Do we have a photocopier here?" He thought about the second question, feeling his stomach sink. "I... I didn't get that good of a look at him." So much had been happening... He flipped open the passport, trying to see if the photo overlapped with the memory engrained into his mind. He showed it to Joe.

"No idea," Joe admitted. "But I'd think they have one for all the administrative stuff. You might ask Rose if you can use it?"

Raphael nodded. "I'll ask her," he decided. He set the passport down. For being the Patron Angel of Knowledge he sure felt awfully stupid. For a moment he briefly consifered that perhaps it was the effects of the knife... Raphael stopped that thought in his tracks. Lucifer was the Devil -literally- but he was still his big brother.

Getting his mind back on track, he looked up at Joe hopefully. "What can you gather from this?" he asked, picking up the page ripped from a book.
