There was a buzz of excitement in all of the public areas of the ship. Paula had been in the lab all day and hadn’t checked her messages, so it wasn’t until the end of her shift that she noticed the activity, people chattering in twos and threes. She caught the words ‘shore leave’ and perked up, realizing they were overdue. A decision must have been made, then.
By the time she made it to her quarters, Paula had chatted with a few friends and was excited herself. Their first shore leave was going to be on Risa, if the rumors were correct. And when she skimmed through the message on her datapadd, she saw that they would be there for the holidays. Paula walked into her quarters and settled into a chair to read more closely, her mind already at work, imagining exploring the planet, maybe lounging on the beach or just indulging in some of the activities the planet was known for.
She couldn’t wait to see Hikaru. Paula looked up at the chronometer, then remembered he had mentioned something about fencing today when they’d talked about getting together.
