Is it showing in Australia? Homeschooling probably helps avoid bulling. I remember reading somewhere recently, that it's really kid of odd that we as a society expect kids to learn to be social from other kids their age with no one to model good behavior from.
i'm sure i saw an australian celebrity tweet about it?
and yes. it's a really strange social phenomena i think, the way we expect kids to have social maturity like that from such a young age.
the culture (where i am, anyway) with homeschooled kids is very different. they still have to deal with a lot of the same issues, but in a very different balance (it's not most of their life, it will be particular times in the week or particular activities or groups) and with a lot more adult supervision.
they have their own issues to contend with, of course. it's not idyllic, but i find it way more sensible. but then that's one of the reasons i chose to homeschool. (not the main one but it was a factor.) when people talk about hs children missing out on school socialisation i often think 'um... yeah? one of the good reasons not to send my kids to school?' [/regular disclaimer that i'm not 'anti school' and understand homeschooling is not the choice for everyone etc]
I've been thinking a lot about this recently. WHen those neighbor boys came to apologize to Greta, I was pretty nice about it. But I wanted to tell their mom some choice words, that's for sure.
It is a thought provoking movie. I am sure the reason you didn't tell the mom some choice words, was that it probably wouldn't help in the long run. Make you feel better, but not help. This movie doesn't give any real "answers" except trying to get other kids aware. Don't be an enabler, don't stand by and watch others be bullied.
One of the reasons behind my last point, is the recent teen suicide in my H.S. was complex and bullying only part of the issue. The only newspaper report about it, many teens posted about how this kid was bullied & railed about stopping bullying. But I heard from another parent that this child (he was only 14) had huge problems in his home life that translated to problems in/with school. He didn't have a lot of friends, kids picked on him
