This was quite a familiar dream. Ifalna in his kitchen. He had no business messing with her after losing Laura and Vincent. Veld knew that. He was smarter than that, honestly. And he couldn't say that he'd been in love with her either. She was a friend, a close friend. Certainly he loved her and felt her death heavily.

Maybe these pills were making him loopy.

Veld rose from the bed and limped himself to the kitchen. He'd told them to do rather creative things with the cane they offered and so he leaned on the wall and watched in a bit of disbelief.

"Iffy?"

Oh why did all of the dead have to be the people he let down? What would be next, Laura?

Ifalna had pretty well known all along what she was to Veld, and it hadn't bothered her in the least. Cetra weren't human, after all: humans put restrictions and qualifications and justifications on love. Cetra just loved. Veld was a dear friend, as many had been to her in her long journey across Gaia, and as far as she was concerned, he would always be, on either side of the 'Stream.

Her smile didn't change by a single degree as he dragged himself into the kitchen.

"You're just in time: lasagna's almost done." Her tone was light and airy, but with a comforting undertone to it. I heard you talking to me, Veld. And I wanted you to know I'm here.

"Iffy." This was no drug induced stupor. This was no hallucination. No twisting of his old mind. This was the Lifestream, no the Planet itself, screwing with him.

"What are you doing here?"

So many reasons. People are praying, seeking the temples--more should. Gaia has a message for them, the humans. ... I heard your apology. I felt your regret. You're still just a little boy, Veld. You've grown so tall, so wise, but you will need help, support. You didn't need me, but Gaia wanted someone you would listen to. I was grateful for the chance. I love this planet...

"Someone had to make sure you were eating enough." She ladled a bowl of steaming soup and set it down in front of the chair nearest him.

Has She talked to you yet, Veld? Have you heard her call? Because... I can't. It is strangely freeing and saddening at once, realizing I truly am out of time. That this will be my last run, forever and always. There's rest for the weary, Verudo, my little dragon. Did you know?

"You chose a lovely spot, by the way, all things considered." Tea was next: she poured a small cup from the kettle. "I know the noticeable absence of a tree worried you, but you know how I feel about putting down roots."
