lulz are lulz indeed but here's an interesting observation to share: the oher day I was on campus chatting with some of the paleo staff and they were saying that one of the reasons there is so much controversy about Chinese finds is that they tend to be so poorly documented in terms of dodgy photographs and awful technical write-ups. My supervisor was reviewing a technical paper for a new pterodactyl holotype and was lamenting about just how horrible the description and lousy photographs were. This is apparently a common problem in recent years for Chinese discoveries and once they are hyped on the net, the fossils themselves tend to disappear into a void so to speak which makes independent verification impossible.
Yeah, I've heard about it, and in the Natural Sciences Museum in Brussels, paleontologists don't trust the Liaoning fossils that much, due to those problems. They even wonder if there aren't some other fake ones (I think most of them are true), for pride sake or whatnot. Sad for science.
