2012 challenge updates

I started my challenge last week, to write a short story a week. So far, I’m two for two - I just finished writing a second short story today.

I plan on sending the first one off to a couple of markets, to see if it can find a home. If it can, great. If not, I’ll indie-pub it here. (Title: (in)substantial shadows)

Why are you sending a story out only once?

Generally, I send a story out to 3-5 markets before I indie-pub it.

However, while "Old Friends" possibly could be counted as a mystery, it's really literary. If I wanted to wait for 2-3 years while I sent it to literary markets I could, or I could just send it to the one mystery market that has a quick return, and then indie pub it. So that's why I chose to only send a story to a single market.

Again, I don't do that for the genre work. I have stories right now that are at their third and fourth markets, and eventually I might indie pub if I don't find a home outside for them.
