The problem with the "we need another biosphere" argument is that people seem to think that ship off half the Earth's population and end up with 4 billion people on Earth and 4 billion on Mars. Problem is that a hell of a lot cheaper to just send a viable breeding population to Mars and keep 8 billion people here on Earth.
