I was also a bit dismayed they don't make rather more of the place. So many buildings unused as someone else has mentioned, the experience depends very much upon getting a good guide. The place itself has little to offer.
It was one of the places I looked at to get married in but the entrance road just looks appalling - nasty modern buildings - all run down and broken and the decent entrance is closed off. Also the catering for their weddings is run by the same people who run that cafe in the hut by the main building (not a great cafe).
