I don't think these short term premonitions were thoroughly rubbishy at all. They saved Arthur and Merlin from the clutches of rampaging boars and a baby wyvern as well as forced Merlin to reveal his magic to Arthur and finally got the guys kissing. I'd say that miscast spell was a blessing!
