I find The Mitchell and Webb Situation around nine hundred times more amusing than That Mitchell and Webb Look, and I've been trying to figure out exactly why, but I can't. Personally, I think the ratio between 'hit' and 'miss' is skewed much more towards 'miss' in the latter show. And although the 'hits' have larger budgets, they still don't make ( Read more... )

I wouldn't say that I find that many times more amusing but I do enjoy Situation more. I'm not entirely sure why, but I do think the ratio of hits to misses is higher in it as you said.

Olivia Colman is awesome. She has impeccable comic timing.

I was exaggerating for effect :D

I can't put my finger on whether it's a sensibility issue; the tone of the humour (which I think, generally speaking, is darker in Look.) Or a style issue; tiny budgets ensured they had to have everything simple, contributing to the sensibility.

Hee, I know.;)

For me, as I really don't mind the darker tone, I feel that it's more the case of the smaller bugets ensuring that things were kept simpler and sharper. The writing is more "on" with the Situation, I think.

I also agree with piapiapiano, I find their radio series funnier than either TV show.

I agree with you on this, but neither show is as good as their radio series. They seem to take a lot longer to get to the funny stuff on TV -- maybe they want to show off the costumes and sets or something. Even when they lift jokes straight from the radio series to the TV, the delivery ends up being a lot more stilted. It's odd.

My favourite bit from TMAWSituation is when they're being god and discussing reproductive organs. :D "...for stacking?" always makes me laugh.

I've only listened to one episode of their radio series (the one you told me to listen to, a couple of years ago, when I had no idea the 'Mitchell' was David Mitchell!) I have them, so you can expect me saying something about them soon, no doubt.

That sketch almost made the cut, too, but then I decided it's ultimately part of a longer series of sketches, and Robert and David holding hands slipped in instead.

Oh my. I can't wait for you to hear the sketch about counting whales. That might be my all-time favourite thing on radio ever -- not just radio comedy, but ALL RADIO EVER.
