Clocking Off Episode 2 Caps and Captions...
Clocking Off Episode 2 features the rather lovely Christopher Eccleston and only a little bit of Philip Glenister. There's also Sarah Lancashire, Lucy Hodgkinson, Jack Shepherd, and Tina O'Brien, plus a few others. So - under the cut you'll find around 76 caps - 720 by 416 pixels in size. Meet the Kolokowskis. That's Yvonne and her children Adele, Charlie and Jessica.
Christopher plays Jim Calvert.
He is a 35 year old bachelor who has just moved in next door to Yvonne.
Believing her kids to be at her mother's, Yvonne and her friend set light to Yvonne's house (dressed up as clowns, mind) in a bid to piss off her ex.
Her kids aren't at her mother's, and are stuck in the raging burning house.
So Jim comes and saves the day.
He's very brave.
I always think you can judge how good an actor is by examining the quantity of spittle they throw into a performance. This rates at 9/10 by my standards.
He's trying to insist that - Adele, I think it is - come with him.
She doesn't want to go out onto the ladder, so he carries her through the burning building, back into the cool Manchester night.
Jim convinces the Kolokowkis to come live with him until they get a new place of their own.
He knows what Yvonne has done.
He tells her off about it.
She feels bad.
Jim sleeps on a lino in a sleeping bag.
And is a bit awkward, going to pick up his watch. He's not used to living with others.
Yvonne works at Mack's.
Look - here's Mack - with magically short hair!
I actually miss the floppy Hugh Grant style (with as much acting cred as Grant himself!)
Mack's being all nice - giving Yvonne money from the whip round.
She doesn't want to accept it - but he tells her to.
Jim works at the airport - flagging planes in and such-like.
This amuses me greatly.
I'm not sure it's a job I'd want.
The uniform isn't that appealing.
And look how close he is to the plane.
Remember what I was saying about Jim being brave?
He's a bit of a ladies man.
And chats up a co-worker.
By impressing her with his beautiful singing voice.
Back at home, Jim hears something.
He decides to see what he can do.
The landlord of Yvonne's torched house has come around and is being a prick.
I have this here purely because this is one of the best expressions I have ever seen.
Jim is pleased that he shows the guy off without much effort.
What. The. Hell?
Living with the Kolokowskis means you have a lot of wonderful mess in the house.
But he can clean. Look at that smirk.
Of course, living with a family also means being awoken at ungodly hours.
Which is not so great.
I love that hair so much.
Naturally, Jim and Yvonne 'hit it off' in certain ways.
I love British drama sex scenes. They're almost frightfully realistic when it comes to romance. Seriously - totally unattractive.
No soft candelight or tasteful camera angles showing skin glinting in the half-light. Just two bodies going at it, with grunts and moans. ♥ Only on British tv.
But at least it looks relatively fun.
Because they go for another round.
Yvonne leaves Jim and he's a bit confused.
Christopher Eccleston singing! (You thought I was just being sarky before, didn't you? Okay - so he didn't sing when trying to chat up that woman.) I think one of my favourite things about Clocking Off so far is the ordinariness of it. Characters sing and hum to themselves. The sex scenes are thoroughly unglamourous. I love ordinary things.
I'm just going to have this here to remind you that Phil never, ever closes his mouth unless he has to. (I shall not mention how he's midway through speaking and I couldn't capture him quickly enough when he did finish the sentence.)
He's drinking a can of coke! I don't know why that amuses me so much, but it does. Look - there's Kev - Stuart's brother from the last episode. I'n't'e-cute?
Jim shows that he's also good with kids.
Cue me with a great big grin on my face.
Really - so massive. The number one method for father figures bonding with sons in Clocking Off is by hurling them around in the air.
In fact, Jim realises he really likes living with a family.
They do stuff like go shopping.
So - there's this heartfelt and emotional scene.
With manic grins.
Eccleston is awesome.
Look at those eyes. My goodness.
Yvonne decides she can't stay at Jim's.
Jim pretends to be okay with it.
But he is sad.
Jim discovers that life without the Kolokowski family is boring.
