I find the dialogue around the Israel-Hamas conflict is losing all nuance. It bothers me that the left seems to be jumping straight onto the anti-Israel just because they want to show they are pro-Gazans. Being anti-Hamas is being on the side of the Gazan people. I keep seeing this simplistic message of 'Ceasefire now!' when Israel has made the terms of the ceasefire clear: release all hostages. Taking hostages, not POWs, is a WAR CRIME. I wonder how all these people would feel if it was their 4 year old daughter held hostage? They'd want their country to do everything to get them back. A ceasefire without hostage release is just a chance for Hamas to regroup and reattack.
Exactly! And there was a ceasefire on October 7th. And Hamas has openly stated numerous times they’ll keep doing October 7th style attacks.
War is ugly as hell and any innocent life lost is a tragedy.
But for everyone claiming there are other ways, what are they? They all go quiet as hell.
I’ve NVER seen this condemnation for any country responding to this type of attack / pogrom. Ever.
Yet I’m meant to ignore that it’s only Israel that is getting this level of condemnation?
And to be clear there are many, many valid criticisms of Israel that should be made. But fighting to get their citizens back through all reasonable means is not one of them.
