"That is unexpected!" she said, cheerfully. "I've got nothing to do right now, so go ahead and ask, I'll listen."

He laughs quietly, leaning his head back against the head rest in his car. "So...I've got this recipe that was my grandma's and I've been kind of craving it lately. But...I can't cook worth shit and I don't even know where to find half of the ingredients..."

His smile brightens through closed eyes. "So I was thinking: I'm not working on Saturday. Maybe we could have a little rendezvous?"

Charlotte laughs at that, a clear cheerful peal even through the phone.

"Do I want to have one of my Richard's scoundrel friends wreak havoc in my kitchen while I sit on a stool and tell you what you're doing wrong?" she pretends to ponder. "Hmmm. Yes, I think I do. If you promise to clean everything up again."

Jason grins. "Hey, I've wrought havoc in your kitchen before; I just wasn't cooking anything. And I do miss those Sunday dinners of yours."

Tensions between himself and Richard, particularly with the whole sleeping with Anita thing, as well as his little foray into cocaine didn't do a whole lot to earn an invite from Richard. Jason may understand, but it doesn't mean he doesn't miss Charlotte and the rest of Richard's family.

"I'll do all the shopping and cleaning up if you can help me figure out what this all means." He stares at the recipe as if trying to decipher ancient hieroglyphs. "Hey, speaking of: where do I find yeast packages and...cardamom seeds? Oh, and how many bags of flour do I need for eight cups' worth?"
