A call to my fellow lit-nerds

So I've got a good idea for an A/C fic, which involves considerable amounts of poetry.  I've already got a few--mostly Donne, Walt Whitman's "I Sing the Body Electric," and a Shelley poem that I can't remember the name of at the moment.

BUT I NEED YOUR HELP

Give me your favorite poems and literary quotes, preferably about love and/or sex, that remind ( Read more... )

That's fine, it's the internet's fault, not yours. XD

I have a weird affection for e.e. cummings--he's one of my favorite modern poets. And I'd forgotten about Neruda, damn. His stuff is gorgeous. Thanks for the reminder!

And I like obscurity. Aziraphale's a hopeless geek, so I'm sure he's got poems rattling around in the library that is his brain that most people have never heard of.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

As a fellow lit-geek, I must answer the call! I love Carson McCullers, she might be my favorite writer. There's one beautiful passage on love from her short story The Ballad of the Sad Cafe that you can find here.

Emily Dickinson's "Love - is anterior to Life -" and it's "opposite," "We outgrow Love like other things" are two poems I also love. You might be able to find versions with more Dickinsonian punctuation, Bartleby was the only site I could find with both. :/

Holy shit, that is beautiful. A little too serious for what I've got planned, but I'm saving it anyway because damn. (Poor Crowley.)

Yay Dickinson! My mother likes her, so I kind of absorbed her affinity through osmosis or something. I <3 weird punctuation.

Thanks!

'song of myself' by walt whitman has always reminded me of crowley and aziraphale. almost any of whitman's more sensual poems, really, but song of myself is a great one with lots to draw on.

Oh wow--yeah, that's definitely a good one. That's going on the list. Whitman's one of my favorites, how did I forget this?

Thanks!

I wish, wish, wish whitman was considered the iconic american poet over poe.

...Yay lesbians indeed.

And that is such a Crowley line. Possessive and snarly and jealous as he is, Aziraphale has him wrapped around his little finger. XD

Thanks!

Of course I have to put some Wilde quotes in this. Aziraphale's a fan, and all the Wilde that I've read sounds like Crowley. XD Perfect!

Thanks for the input. ^^
