Fic: Boys of Summer

Title: Boys of Summer

Rating: 15ish. Angsty.

Characters: Ianto, passing mention of others.

Spoilers: Meat.

Summary: Inspired by Owen's 'Anything could happen up there' comment in Meat. The title is taken from Dylan Thomas' 'I see the boys of summer'. I'm not sure if this works, partly because my feelings for the valleys are complicated.

Um, I followed the link here from the Torchwood three newsletter and well, I just hope I don't intrude.

I really liked the imagery you used in story, the scenery against the background of the story which somehow makes me feel wistful.
And although I can't quite match the Ianto of your story with the Ianto in my head I could somehow see it perfectly before me, the way he could have gone, how he ended up with this slightly bitter twist to himself, not sure if his life is what it could've been but maybe not really sorry and, well I am probably not making much sense here.
I just had to stop and say well, I really admire what you have created here and it's leaving me feel somehow twisted and wistful and even a little bit optimistic and just, thank you for that.

well, hands down i do believe that this is now my most favourite ianto-fic IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.
it is so fucking DEAD ON that i can't -- i can't breathe!
not only is it linked beautifully back into the show but it gathers up what we know of him and, with a deadly accurate voice, angsts and angsts and angsts for just the right amount of time

and then it ends with a cigarette.

in summary, you're a damn brilliant writer. and thank you.

What you may or may not feel about the valleys you've certainly captured it here, and the small town hopelessness that grinds on the bones and into the soul.Just with words... Nice one.

Hey there. I did come to look after your description of the valleys. I loved this story and it certainly helps me see the "valleys boy" aspect of Ianto. This sentence is a killer: "He still wanted the same things, and it filled him with slightly hysterical amusement that he was no closer to having safety, security, comfort, friends, or a lover who loved him, than he had been as a lonely teenager."

You have gotten right inside his head with this story. He is so much more complicated than we could see.
