The ballon flight for this morning was cancelled just as we pulled into the gate.  Before we left Indianola for our hotel room in Des Moines the rain began.  Looks like an exciting day in the hotel room with TV, PC, and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.  Could be worse.  We'll try again this evening, and if nothing else there will be

No high flyers, this trip..

The rain stopped by mid-day and the sun came out to dry out the surrounding area. Unfortunately, the wind continued at between 12 and 15 mph so the balloons didn't fly in the evening, either. They did ready one for flight and take it around the base of the hill as sort of a demonstration, but it stayed a few feet off the ground and landed after about 10 minutes. The band that was entertaining the crowd was very good. We enjoyed the music and the crowds. Lots of young ones with silly Energizer Bunny Ears and broad grins. After sitting on the ground for about two hours we decided to forego the fireworks and called it an evening. It was a fun weekend, even if we didn't get to see the balloons in flight.
